Week 2 and the mystery deepens... Construction continues at Depot II in Oriole Park, and we're still not telling you what's being constructed. 😉

The guesses so far have ranged from plausible to ridiculous, and we love them all. But we're not confirming or denying anything. We're just posting update photos and letting you wonder.

So, what do YOU think is happening at Depot II?

A lot of people don’t show up confident. They show up unsure.

Unsure they’ll fit in, that they'll be understood or even if they'll be welcomed.

Sometimes the biggest breakthrough comes when someone is greeted like they matter.

That first “yes, you belong here” can change everything that follows.

That’s why inclusion isn’t just “nice.” It’s necessary, and it takes work.

This is your mid-month reminder to donate your bottles to one or both of the Blue Bin Charity of the Month recipients.

For June, we're spotlighting and fundraising for Red Deer Minor Basketball Association and Blackfalds Minor Ball.

Donate your empties, and the refund dollars go straight toward programs that help people feel supported, included, and connected in our community.

It’s one of the easiest ways to turn “I should really do something” into “Done.”
Thanks for showing up for your neighbours in the most wonderfully practical way possible.

And, as always, we're grateful to Zed 98.9 Red Deer & New Country 95.5 for making our Blue Bin Program possible.

Community partnerships help COSMOS keep programs accessible, consistent, and rooted in Central Alberta. If your business is thinking about where your community support goes, we'd love to be part of that conversation.

Here's what that can look like in practice:
Hosting a Blue Bin on your property
Supporting a bottle drive
Sponsoring a program or becoming a community partner
Team volunteer opportunities where they're a good fit

Every one of those options connects directly to the work we do alongside individuals with disabilities, building skills, creating community connection, and opening up real opportunities right here in Red Deer.

There's no one-size-fits-all ask here. If you're interested, reach out, and we'll find something that actually makes sense for your business.

“Life skills” can sound vague until you picture it on a Tuesday afternoon.

It can look like:
â–Ș Learning routines that reduce stress
â–Ș Practicing communication in a safe setting
â–Ș Building comfort with everyday technology
â–Ș Gaining confidence doing things you used to avoid

These aren’t small wins. They are the building blocks of independence, connection, and dignity.

Some growth starts with a skill. Some starts with simply feeling welcomed somewhere.

People grow in all kinds of ways, and not always the ways you'd expect.

Sometimes it's learning something practical. Sometimes it's gaining enough confidence to try. Sometimes it's finding a routine that actually fits.

There's no single right starting point. There's just the next step that makes sense for that person, and support that helps them take it.

That's what we're here for at COSMOS.

You can help vulnerable people in Central Alberta move forward with real support behind them.

The Good Sheppard Donor Program, named in honour of Barb Sheppard, exists to fund practical supports that remove roadblocks and open doors, so individuals can participate meaningfully in their community and reach their potential.

You don’t have to know someone personally to make a personal difference. If you’ve ever wanted to help in a way that actually changes outcomes, this is one of those chances.
You can make your one-time or recurring donation here:

Construction started this week, and we're not telling you what it is.

We'll share a progress photo every week so you can guess. That's the game. We keep the secret; you offer the theories.

The depot is open as usual while the work happens. It'll be a little messier than normal, but your empties are still very welcome.

Guesses in the comments. Go. 😀

There's something different about learning history when you're standing in front of it.

This week, our community session visited Veterans Voices of Canada at Parkland Mall, and it was a meaningful few hours. The museum covers a remarkable range of Canadian military history, from the Second World War through to Afghanistan, including displays on the Holocaust and the lesser-known story of Canadian volunteers who served in Vietnam. Uniforms, artifacts, personal stories, and the kind of detail that textbooks rarely capture.

Our group had the chance to meet two veterans and the museum's curator, hear some of that history firsthand, and thank the veterans personally for their service. Watching people take that in, ask questions, and make real connections with people and stories that shaped this country, that's what community participation looks like.

If you haven't visited Veterans Voices of Canada at Parkland Mall, it's worth your time. It's free, it's local, and it's the kind of place that stays with you.
