Forty years ago, this ad ran in the Red Deer Advocate.

Cosmos Bottle Depot's official opening, March 1986, one block east of Thunderbird. Coke samples, a picnic cooler draw, and 89-cent chips.

A lot has changed since then. The handwritten pricing, the giveaways, even the name on the sign. But the roots go back decades in this community, and that history is something we're proud of.

This month, we added something new: Drive Up windows at our Oriole Park location. Same idea our founders had in 1986: make it easy for Central Alberta to bring in their bottles. Just a lot faster now.

Come see what's changed (and what hasn't) for yourself.

We can't wait to see you! Sure, the Drive Up windows have been open for a couple of weeks, but if a new feature isn't a good excuse for a bit of a party, we don't know what is!

Come join us at 10 am at Depot 2 on Orr Drive tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 21) for the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting.

The Red Deer Food Bank Ice Cream truck will be on site serving up delicious cones, some local dignitaries are planning to attend, and of course our mascot Bevvie will be ready to party.

This is your mid-month reminder to be sure to donate your empties to one of our amazing blue bin buddies this month!

Sendero Centre and Sylvan Lake Lodge are two organizations doing incredible things in our community, and we know they'd be thrilled to have a nice check at the end of the month.

Somewhere in Red Deer, one of our depot guys is already sweating just thinking about Friday's grand opening and ribbon-cutting for the new Drive Up windows. Bevvie's joining us for the grand opening, and August does not care about mascot comfort.

Come for the party and to cheer him on. Bring water. For him, mostly. Maybe grab him an ice cream from the Red Deer Food Bank ice cream truck along with yours.

This is Becky's desk on any given day, paperwork, sticky notes, and the everyday work of keeping things running behind the scenes. She's been part of COSMOS for years, first in HR, now as Executive Director.

A lot of what makes support work happen isn't visible from the outside. It's someone paying attention to the details, day after day.

We're looking for a few more people to join our Board of Directors.

It's a quarterly commitment, four meetings a year plus the AGM, and you don't need a background in disability services to be a good fit. We want a board that reflects the different kinds of experience and perspective people bring, so if you care about this community and have some time to give a few times a year, we'd love to talk.

Board members help guide the direction of COSMOS, an organization supporting people with disabilities in Central Alberta through practical programs and community connection.
