Remember Saylor? Our little peg-legged girl? Well, she’s officially a tripawd and ready to find her people! ❤️
When Saylor came into our care, she was missing her foot and part of her back leg, leaving her with what we lovingly called her little peg leg. Since then, she’s had the remaining portion amputated, healed beautifully, and is getting on with life on three legs!
Her little peg leg might have been what first caught your attention. Or maybe it was her stunning merle colouring, or that wonderfully hopeful but cautious expression. Whatever it was, we promise there’s so much more to Saylor than meets the eye!
🐾 2–3 years old
🐾 Australian Shepherd Cross
🐾 26 lbs
🐾 Spayed, vaccinated, microchipped & dewormed
🐾 Adoption fee: $475
Saylor is sweet, shy, ridiculously smart, and still pretty convinced the world is full of suspicious things.
She’s also a serious Velcro dog. Once she decides you’re her person, you’re HER person. She strongly gravitates toward women, and having someone she trusts makes a world of difference.
She’s good with other dogs, although she hasn’t quite figured out how to play. We’re not convinced she NEEDS another dog, but she definitely takes cues from them, and a confident canine companion could be a help, but a confident and consistent owner will be the biggest help.
She’s good with kids, but older, dog-savvy children would be best. Toddlers would likely be overwhelming.
Cats? Well… that’s complicated. She’s currently fostered with one, and while she hasn’t been aggressive, her fixation has increased over time. Those prey drive instincts are strong! The right cat, a watchful owner, and firm boundaries might work, but this would need careful consideration.
She’s house and crate trained, walks nicely on leash when she’s feeling confident, and has figured out how to open latched baby gates and doors. Check out the comments for her gate-opening skills: bite, pop off the latch, push the top handle, and freedom! The most important part is leaving the other dogs completely confused as the gate latches behind her 🙈🤣 Did we mention she’s smart?
Now, here’s the part we really need you to read.
Saylor NEEDS routine. She does wonderfully with consistency and thrives when she knows what to expect.
She’s also an Aussie with a busy brain that needs WORK. Training, enrichment, walks, confidence building… she needs someone who genuinely enjoys working with their dog. She’s an early riser who is quite happy to announce when it’s time to get up and get moving!
And don’t expect to win her over with a handful of kibble. This girl has standards. Apparently high-end salami is where the negotiations begin.
Saylor isn’t a ready-made adventure dog. Not yet. But she can be… and when she has that bond and confidence, nothing will hold her back.
She needs patience, structure, consistency, and someone willing to put in the work. Someone who understands that smart dogs can be challenging dogs, and that loving a breed isn’t the same as being prepared to meet its needs.
And please don’t mistake her three legs for a limitation. As her confidence grows, we’re seeing more and more of what this girl is capable of. Her missing leg certainly won’t be what holds her back!
Saylor doesn’t need someone to feel sorry for her. She needs someone who sees everything she’s capable of becoming, and is willing to help her get there. ❤️
