Sweetgrass Connections (Miyo-pimâtisiwin)
What is Sweetgrass Connections (Miyo-pimâtisiwin)?
Sweetgrass Connections is a program that engages and brings together women, girls and 2Spirit individuals to build relationships, increase safety and economic security by offering education and life skills surrounding gender-based violence, and to help build a stronger connection to themselves, their community, and ultimately: create safe and meaningful pathways to Culture.
Activities will capture participant voice and input in order for participants to experience ceremony in a relevant and healthy way.
How?
Through Ceremony:
Participants will have a voice regarding ceremony and teachings they would like to be connected to, such as: Smudging with Medicines, Feasts, land-based learning, Cultural Teachings, Seasonal activities, and connection to pre-existing Community Events.
Through Storytelling & Peer Support:
Starting in the fall, we will resume our weekly Cultural Drop-in Program called Sweetgrass Story Circle, where we learn sacred teachings, as well as life-skills through workshops. It is a Cultural peer-support group where we come together in a safe way to learn, brainstorm, and get connected to ourselves, and the stories that bind us to our Culture and our Community.
Through Connection & Opportunity:
As the project wraps up, participants will be encouraged to use their voice and participate in co-creating a safe community through engagement, advocacy, and by sharing their story, as well as the impacts of what they have learned throughout the program. Participants who are willing will be involved in participant-led planning to empower and strengthen themselves, their connection to Culture, and their community.
