Freedom and human rights are for everyone. Including transgender youth. But in Alberta, the provincial government is planning to strip away the charter-protected rights of trans youth and their families.
We can't let them get away with it. Why? Because trans youth deserve to live free and happy lives. Because if they can take rights away from trans youth, they might try to take yours away next.
We need to act - and act fast - to force the government to cease their plan to override charter-protected rights.
Using the notwithstanding clause is a cowardly decision. It shows the government is concerned their legislation may in fact violate the charter. They want to get around a legal challenge because they know their arguments won't stand up to legal scrutiny.
Albertans deserve - and expect - better from their government
