On February 9, 2026, RCMP in made an arrest in an historical sexual assault investigation.

In June 1992, RCMP received a report of a woman who had been sexually assaulted in her residence at knifepoint. No suspects were identified at the time but DNA was recovered at the scene. Investigators continued to review the file and in 2021 a potential suspect was identified. A further review of the file in 2023 revealed more information thanks to Investigative Genetic Genealogy. A familial DNA match allowed investigators to confirm the suspect’s identity, leading to an arrest and multiple charges.

“We want to remind the public, especially the victims, that we are always looking to resolve criminal investigations” said Cpl. Nicholls, Detachment Commander of the Two Hills RCMP. “I know there are other victims out there waiting for this chapter to end and I hope that this will give them hope that resolution is still possible, no matter the time elapsed”.

If travel is not essential, consider delaying your trip until conditions improve. For up-to-date road conditions, check https://511.alberta.ca/
