From Plywood to Possibility: Help Us Build the First School in Bunangaka Village
Every morning, children from our orphanage and others from the community in Bunangaka Village, Uganda, arrive to school with hope.
But when they arrive, their classroom is little more than a dirt floor, wooden poles and sheets of plywood.
There are no solid walls.
No real protection from the elements.
No permanent place to learn.
Yet they come anyway.
Because education represents something bigger than a classroom—it represents a future.
Today, we are taking the next step to change that forever.
In 2024 we started educating approximately 160 children in that space, because they had no other place to learn.
Over the past 2 years we have purchased nearly 4 acres of land for the school, orphanage, and local farming, growing food for the children. Our team and the local community have already manufactured more than 30,000 compressed earth blocks by hand. The plans are drawn, and construction is beginning on the first permanent building at our project: three classrooms and a sanitation block.
But this project is about much more than one building. it is about building a school, and family homes for each orphan to live in with their foster family. Parents who will teach and raise them as their own, into productive adults with a future.
Rotary International has committed approximately $90,000 CAD to our project at Bunangaka Village through a Global Grant.
That funding will provide:
💧 Clean water through a drilled well
🔒 Security fencing around the campus
☀️💡 Solar power and lighting - safe, reliable energy at school
👩🏫 Teacher training
🧵 Sewing machines and vocational training for women
🌱 Agricultural training to strengthen food security
There's just one condition.
The school building must be completed and operational before December 31.
