Not many buildings carry a whole industry's story within their walls.
The grain elevator in Radway, Alberta is the last remaining remnant of Alberta's flour milling industry, and it has quite a history.
Built in 1929 by Withold Krause, the elevator was joined two years later by an adjoining flour mill that Krause also designed and built. The mill operated right through World War 2, fuelling communities when it mattered most. After the war, it changed hands, operating under International Grain Company and later as Radway Flour Mills, before closing its doors in 1953.
The elevator itself was carefully refurbished between 2018 and 2020, preserving a piece of history that might otherwise have been lost.
It stands today as a quiet reminder of how much rural Alberta has built, endured, and carried forward.
