πŸ’”πŸπŸ’” Always sad to share this type of news. A reminder to us all to slow down and help alert other drivers when there are sheep on or near the road.

With early darkness upon us, just a reminder that the local wildlife are very active right now! We have had a report of a ram being struck and killed last night. Please slow your roll, and use caution when driving, especially after dark. Thank you!

πŸ˜‘πŸ’” 3 sheep killed over the Family Day Long Weekend on Radium Hill πŸ’”πŸ˜‘

The three sheep - all mature ewes - were all hit after dark on three different evenings. According to accounts on social media, at least one ewe was hit right by the unfinished overpass.

How many more before the overpass is ready???

Unrelated photo but a reminder that there could be lambs born last year that are now orphaned.

Radium’s iconic sheep deserve so much better.

πŸπŸš™ On one hand, there are caring drivers slowing down for bighorn sheep on Radium Hill throughout the winter. Then there are ones like this… πŸš™πŸ

This dashcam footage is from Saturday, January 4th and was submitted by a concerned page follower.

Despite the flashing lights, highly visible signage, a half-finished wildlife overpass, and marked sheep patrol truck, some drivers still prioritize saving a measly few seconds over public and wildlife safety.

Would be nice to see more local RCMP presence on the Hill on busy weekends. This is when it counts. Salt on the highway for the next few months = wild sheep on the road. Please share.

The BC Wildlife Program is asking for your observations of Mountain Goat, Thinhorn Sheep and Bighorn Sheep from around B.C.

Specifically, observations that record the location and presence of newborn kids and lambs, along with later observations of nanny/kid and ewe/lamb groups throughout the year.

The Provincial Wild Sheep and Mountain Goat Natal App allows conservationists and members of the public to easily submit what they see. The data collected will be used to inform B.C.’s Regional Biologists when making important decisions around wild sheep and goat conservation as well as provide information on the effects of changing climates and other environmental and human pressures on the wild sheep and goat populations.

The Mountain Goat and Wild Sheep Natal App is web-based and smartphone supported. Visit the page below for more details and just click on the link for the device you're using.

Another winter has begun with no wildlife overpass… Expect to see sheep on the highway and roads all around Radium. Let’s work together to ensure traffic is rolling slowly over the busy holiday break!
