It was a very productive and busy day at the Printery on Saturday. The Doors Open event brought so many visitors through, curious to learn more about just what goes on in this historic stone house.
Downstairs, the Print Group welcomed new member, Brian, who pulled his first print ever on the Baltimorean and put his machinist skills to use helping with the reassembly of a donated slug saw. Upstairs, the accession record spreadsheets continue to grow.
Many thanks to all who chipped in, be it with the Doors Open visitors, the typesetting, the lock ups, the make-ready, the letterpress printing, the trouble-shooting, the record keeping…
If you’ve ever wondered what goes on in this little heritage building, follow along here, ask any questions, send a DM or arrange a visit by sending an email to [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you!

We look forward to this Print Fair all year long. There is no space more inspiring, fascinating and wondrous for a printer than Howard Iron Works Museum.
The Mackenzie Print Group was once again well represented with Pat McIlroy | Printmaker & Illustrator, Pica Press and The Papertrail. Grateful to Liana and Nick Howard for hosting another incredible day in press heaven - with so many talented vendors, workshops prints to pull and delicious snacks.
To all who stopped by for a chat we thank you for sharing your stories, browsing our table of letterpress curiosities and of course your donations.
Only 364 days till next year’s event. The countdown has begun.

This Saturday, much of our effort was in support of an event being held at Willowbank of Restoration Arts. One of our Print Group members, Alexx, is starting year 1 of 3 at Willowbank this Fall so we were extra proud to have a table at this wonderful fundraising Open House.
Alexx gave us a tour of the grand old house and the sprawling grounds including outbuildings, gardens, a kiln and more. Each area, a different learning space. The most beautiful and inspiring classrooms you could ever imagine.
Thank you to all who stopped to chat, print a bookmark or purchase a print. We so enjoyed our afternoon on the veranda.
Alexx your Print Group friends are cheering you on as you embark on this incredible journey of learning the Restoration Arts at such an esteemed institution just a stones throw from the Printery.

Happy Type High Day! September 18th is celebrated in the letterpress community as Type High Day. But what does “type high” actually mean? It’s the standard height of a letterpress printing surface—the sweet spot that lets type kiss the paper and leave its mark. Cheers to being the right height! Who brought cake?🤣

Some things are best left to the pros. Good thing we’ve got a few. Andria set up a photo shoot, Denis took some great photos, Art was a pro subject. And in the next room, with an eye on keeping our collection running, Kevin worked on the Heidelberg.
We look forward to sharing what this little photo shoot was all about but that’ll have to wait a few more weeks.
Every Saturday is a little different at the Printery!

What a wonderful three days at the Marshville Heritage Festival in Wainfleet this sunny Labour Day weekend!
We always enjoy this event as it draws so many lovely people, happy to stop by our Printery to say hello, share a story, see the Whitlock press run, print a bookmark, have a custom line of type cast, and of course, grab this year’s calendar and/or poster.
We loved chatting with you all and are grateful for your donations which go toward helping us keep the art of letterpress alive.
If your interest was piqued in any way and you’d like to learn more about us, check out our website (linked in our bio) or DM us here. We’re always welcoming new members.

It’s almost that time again! The Marshville Heritage Festival returns September 5th to 7th at the Marshville Village. Our 2 cylinder Whitlock press will be up and running, printing posters and calendars. We’ll have a broad selection of cuts for sale again this year as well as some California type cases. Come cast your own a line of type and chat with our members at the Printery in the Marshville Village.
Bring the family and take a step back in time with us.

Can we talk about this sweet little press? This tiny Sigwalt No.11 dates from roughly 1890 or slightly later. With a 2.5” x 4” chase, it was and still is perfect for business cards and other small cards or tags. Having finished up with the Baltimorean, Kevin worked his magic creating new rollers for this little baby. Between the new rollers and that beautifully detailed older paint job, we think she looks smashing!
While Fran continues work on the huge task of recording our entire inventory, Andria and Ron met with Courtney from the Lincoln Museum and Cultural Centre. More on that later this Fall.
Pat, meanwhile, printed some bookmarks for the NOTL Heritage Festival coming up on Aug. 3rd and Kathy continued work on our Marshville poster after losing a battle with the photopolymer plate maker. It can’t always be press perfection. 🤣
Interested in joining in on our letterpress fun and games, getting inky and a little messy every Saturday morning? We’re always welcoming new members. For more information and access to a membership form, check out our website. Link in bio. We’d love to have you.
