DAY 2 at Miss Indigenous Canada 🦋🤍💕 {Toronto Bound: City Hall, UofT & Royal Ontario Museum!}

We’re easing into our week of meeting new faces and settling into our home-for-the-week. We ended the day with a sharing circle that gave me the much needed reminder that we’re all human. None of us walk without pain, self-doubt or all the answers to life... That’s what the journey is all about, figuring out how to honour our own journeys and spirits despite it.

It’s good to have that refresher when you’re in the presence of powerful ikwewag/women who seem to have it all together.

We are getting so spoiled by everyone here in Six Nations, I feel so much gratitude for the hospitality.

Highlights of the day:
⭐️ Meeting Olivia Chow, Torontos City Mayor
⭐️ Running into KZ’s own, Kayla Whiteduck (I felt like I found a piece of home away from home. It was so good to run into you!)
⭐️ My childhood best friend who lives in Toronto surprising me at the ROM. Another familiar face 🥹
⭐️ Listening to the honour songs sang to us by guest speakers

The beginning of a life-changing week at Miss Indigenous Canada 🤎 DAY 1/5 {Orientation}

I have never felt a presence like this one in my life, I don’t know what to do with it. It’s so beautiful. It’s so much to take in, the energies, the laughs, the beauty, the instant connections, the care, the community.

I’m in awe to see what’s in store for us all.

I have all of you back home in my heart and your words mean more than you can imagine. It keeps me grounded.

Full circle story: I used to travel 2 hours by bus to work everyday wishing I was doing “big things” and more importantly, working with Indigenous people. I missed home. I missed Indigenous humour, laughter, and community. So, I had been searching for any job related to working with community in the city. I remember this day in particular I was listening to the Call Her Aunty podcast on the bus, specifically Tia Woods episode. I wanted to get inspired. During my listen, I had to pause because I got a call…Little did I know it was a call that would offer me a new job and change my life forever!

That moment led me into the work I do now and today I get the honour of being a guest on the podcast.

Crazy to think maybe someone will be on their bus commute listening to this episode and manifesting, only a few seconds away from a different path for themselves 💜

I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m EVEN more excited for the MIC Program Week than ever after meeting Indigenous Canada 2025 - Gena Boubard Wajashk-Restoule - Miss Indigenous Canada Delegate 2026 at the Summer Solstice Powwow 2026 🌷🌾

Indigenous Peoples Day was well spent witnessing a beautiful Fancy Shawl Special put on by Kitigan Zibi’s very own, Taliyah Wawatie. For those of you who don’t know her, look for a beautiful champion fancy shawl dancer and you’ll find her at a powwow.
