FISH PRINTS AT REBECCA SPIT THIS THURSDAY, AUGUST 13

Get your hands messy and make some seriously cool art using real local fish.

Learn gyotaku, the traditional Japanese art of fish printing, and create bold, detailed prints directly from local catches. It’s part art project, part ocean exploration, and just a little bit wild. You’ll leave with your own frame-worthy creations.

All ages welcome
Time: 10:00 am–1:00 pm
Cost: FREE
Location: Rebecca Spit, picnic area on the right just after the entrance

Bring: Clothes that can get messy, a water bottle, and your curiosity.

Come make art with a fish. We promise the fish won’t critique your work.

What do you want more of in your life?

A vision board is a creative way to explore your interests, dreams, goals, and the experiences you want to invite into your future. There are no rules and no artistic experience required. Through images, words, colors, and ideas, you’ll create a collage that reflects what inspires you and where you want to grow.

We’ll provide all the basic supplies. If you have old magazines, photos, ticket stubs, postcards, or pictures of places, hobbies, people, or experiences that matter to you, bring them along to personalize your board.

Whether you’re dreaming about travel, friendships, creativity, a future career, outdoor adventures, or simply discovering what excites you, this workshop is a chance to slow down, imagine, and create something that’s uniquely yours.

MONDAY AUGUST 10th at The Quadra Community Centre: ALL AGES!

Turn Today’s Catch into Tomorrow’s Masterpiece!

Join local marine educator and fisherman Lucas Gentina for a hands-on Fish Prints workshop where art meets marine science. And a special thanks to Chris Wilton & Quadra Island Boat Tours for providing a fantastic opportunity to catch fish on August 23rd (See fishing with Lucas on Rec Desk!)

Using the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku, participants will create beautiful fish prints while learning about the fascinating anatomy, adaptations, and ecology of the fish that call our coastal waters home. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with nature through creativity, curiosity, and conservation.

No artistic experience is necessary, just bring your imagination!
