The Qualicum Beach Royal Canadian Legion is deeply saddened by the tragic and senseless violence that has shaken the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

As fellow Legion members with a Branch in Tumbler Ridge, we feel a profound connection — not only through our shared mission, but through the strong sense of community that unites all Legion branches across Canada. When one community is hurting, we all feel that loss.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, to those who were injured, and to everyone in Tumbler Ridge facing the weight of this devastating tragedy. We stand in solidarity with you during this incredibly difficult time.

We also wish to acknowledge the courage and dedication of the first responders, medical teams, and community leaders who acted swiftly in the face of crisis.

Our thoughts are with the people of Tumbler Ridge as they begin the long road toward healing. From Qualicum Beach to Tumbler Ridge, we stand together.

We want to give a special shout-out to the Canadian Legion Branch 76, a dedicated Groups for Good member for more than 17 years. This December, they generously donated $3,000 to SOS’s Winter Emergency Needs Fund, and we are deeply grateful for their ongoing support of local families and individuals.

Today, in the quiet beauty of Qualicum Beach, we gathered at The Civic Centre to pause, reflect, and honour those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

As the wreaths were laid and the solemn silence fell over us, we remembered the bravery and dedication of the military veterans who stood in the face of adversity, their courage echoing across generations. We also remembered the families who stood with them, offering their strength and love in the shadows of conflict.

To everyone who joined us today, your presence was a tribute to the sacrifices made by so many, and your support for our veterans and their families means more than words can express. You remind us all that the values of sacrifice, duty, and remembrance are not just words, but a living legacy that continues to shape our community.

We are forever grateful to the men and women who gave so much to protect our freedom, and to those who continue to serve today. Your courage and commitment shall never be forgotten.

Thank you to all who attended, and to those who carry the spirit of Remembrance with them every day.

Lest we forget.

On National Indigenous Veterans Day (November 8), we honour those who have served or are serving with the Canadian Armed Forces. Many thousands of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people have served at home and overseas in global wars and multinational peacekeeping missions.

Your selfless and courageous acts will never be forgotten.
