A friendly notice to our school and larger community:

With the warmer weather here, more students are walking, biking, and rolling to and from school. ☀️🚲

Please take a little extra care during busy morning drop-offs and commutes:
• Check carefully for bikes and pedestrians before backing out of driveways
• Watch for children crossing at intersections
• Remember that cyclists may be coming up alongside you when turning right

Kids are still learning road safety, so let’s all take that extra second to help keep them safe.

One moment of attention can make a big difference. 💛
Please spread the reminder with your network!

Warmer weather = more motorcycles on the road 🏍️

No one notices more than ICBC Road Safety Coordinators Tanis in Maple Ridge and Tom in Coquitlam, both longtime riders themselves. With years on two wheels and working with communities, they know exactly what keeps riders safe and what puts them at risk.

A message for drivers from Tanis:
“Motorcycles are back on the road, and they can be harder to see than you think. Please take that extra moment at intersections — most motorcycle crashes happen there, and a second look can make all the difference.”

Motorcycles are smaller, easier to miss, and harder to judge for speed. Scan carefully, avoid distractions, and give riders the room they need.

And some advice for riders from Tom:
“Even experienced riders feel a bit rusty after the winter. Wear your gear every ride — no exceptions — and take some time to warm up your skills.”

Practice emergency braking and slow‑speed maneuvers in a safe space. Stay visible, ride at a safe speed, and never assume drivers have seen you.

Whether you’re behind the wheel or behind the handlebars, we can all help everyone share the road safely.

🚗💡 Do you know when and how to do a shoulder check? Here’s a quick breakdown:

👉 Anytime you change direction or road position, do a fast shoulder check to clear your blind spot.

👉 Turning right? Glance over your right shoulder to make sure no cyclist or vehicle is beside you.

👉 Before opening your door, always mirror check + shoulder check. Someone could be coming up alongside.

👉 And don’t forget them when you:
• Pull out
• Pull over
• Change lanes
• Turn left or right

A quick shoulder check keeps you and everyone around you safe!
