Hello community,
This week is our Provincial Emergency Preparedness week, with the theme of "In It Together".
It certainly is timely, given the high temperatures this early in the season, reminding us to consider the upcoming summer and how we can prepare.
Since the Procter Hall was designated as an emergency center (reception and lodging) 2 years ago, our local volunteer Emergency Center team has moved on to planning. Developing our own Neighbourhood Preparedness Plan (with some help from RDCK Emergency Services) has been our goal. The documented plan is about 75% complete. The remaining 25% requires help and information from the community.
Emergency Support Services (ESS) reports that small Neighbourhood Emergency Teams (NETS) have a significant positive impact on neighbourhoods in urgent or difficult situations.
These groups typically consist of a small number of homeowners/renters within your immediate vicinity who can be accounted for and cared for during a crisis.
We will be reaching out to you over the next month or so, asking you to step up to create these small, near-to-you NETS and to provide other critical information that will allow us all to hope for the best while preparing for the worst.
Think of your immediate neighbours. If you were to create a NET group, who would you include? Where are the natural boundaries? Who would be included or left out? Where does the next boundary start?
If you think you would like to participate in this, please email [email protected] with SUBJECT: NETS
In a place where we know what it is like to depend on each other, the theme "In It Together" rings very true.
In the meantime, check out the link below for tools and information to help you prepare your home and household today.
Look for our info booths at local markets and events.
Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week is a great time to learn about getting prepared for emergencies.
