Raising Awareness at SeaFest for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

On June 14th, during SeaFest, we took a moment to shine a light on an issue that affects far too many - elder abuse. As June 15th marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), it’s crucial that we stand together to protect the rights, dignity, and well-being of older adults in our communities.

Elder abuse can take many forms - physical, emotional, financial, or neglect - and often goes unseen. By spreading awareness, we can help bring these issues to the forefront and create safer, more supportive environments for our elders.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and supported the cause. Let’s continue to look out for one another, especially the older generations who have paved the way for us. 💜

This year, North Coast Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society (NCIMSS) has hosted two service provider meetings - bringing together local organizations in Prince Rupert, BC to share program updates, resources, and key community contacts. These gatherings have been an incredible opportunity to build stronger referral networks, foster trust, and spark ideas for collaborative projects that align with our shared community goals.

Together, we're growing personal and professional relationships that strengthen the services we all provide. We're also working on developing a collective voice to advocate for the support and resources our community needs.

Check out some moments from our recent meetings below!

🟣 As we continue this important work, we also want to acknowledge World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15. Let’s all take a moment to recognize the importance of protecting and respecting older adults in our community. 💜
