Gitxaala Nation wishes to recognize and celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

In observance of this important day, all Gitxaala Nation Offices will be closed on Monday, June 22.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to honour the rich cultures, traditions, histories, and contributions of First Nations Peoples across Canada. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our shared journey toward reconciliation and to celebrate the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities.

Our offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, June 23.

We recognize. We celebrate. We commit to reconciliation.

Notice
There is a once again growing concern in the community with dangerous driving.

There was another close call where a child riding a bike was forced of the road.

This concern is ongoing
Band vehicles and equipment are only to be operated by those with valid driver’s licenses
Seat belts are not being worn, child seat are not utilized as well as people riding in the back of trucks
There are still a number of unlicensed drivers as well as underage drivers.
I’m sure those that own private vehicles can and will be held liable for damage and injuries.
If worse, they will be charged

Please take this seriously before another accident occurs or worse

If you have concerns with any of this, please contact myself to discuss

Thank you
Ernie Westgarth
Director of community services

There have been several complaints made regarding dogs on the loose and attacking or disturbing people
Just this morning two dogs chased a young person on a bike

It’s just a matter of time before these attacks cause serious injury

Anyone that has had problems with any of these dogs are urged to contact Ernie Westgarth

Tie your pets up
Keep them on leashes
Clean up after them

A report will be made to RCMP and we will have these problem animals removed, these dogs are not on leashes or tied up and controlled

Thank you for your cooperation
