Reconciliation is not a single action — it’s a continuous, collective journey. It asks each of us, as individuals and as institutions, to recognize the lasting impacts of colonization and cultural loss, and to take responsibility for building a better future together.

The City of Prince Rupert is committed to doing this work in partnership with Indigenous Peoples and communities. In partnership with Kxeen Community Services Society, we’ve established an Indigenous Relations Committee to help make our programs and services more culturally aware and inclusive. Together, we’re developing a Reconciliation Action Plan — a roadmap informed by community voices — to help guide our next steps in a good way.

We've started off with sharing information at public events throughout the last two months, and are excited to now be sharing our survey seeking more specific feedback. Over the weekend, we were grateful for the opportunity to support the Git Waas (people of the rain) high school drum group's hosting of North Coast Night and launch our survey formally. Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share with us, as well as our dedicated current and past committee members for their valuable time and feedback.

We invite residents, and especially those of Indigenous descent, to share your thoughts through our community survey below. Your input will help shape how we move forward.

As a thank-you, those who complete the survey can enter a draw for 1 of 10 $50 grocery gift cards. (Your contact info will only be used if you win and will not be linked to your survey responses.)
