💛 August 30 is National Grief Awareness Day.

Grief does not follow a schedule.

It does not look the same for everyone, and it does not simply disappear after a certain amount of time.

Some days may feel manageable. Other days, a song, a photograph, a familiar place or even a certain smell can bring everything rushing back.

Grief can be quiet.
It can be messy.
It can arrive in waves.
And it can change over time.

There is no “right” way to grieve and no deadline for missing someone you love.

Today is a reminder to make space for grief — our own, and the grief carried by the people around us.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can say is simply:

“I’m here.” 💛

Some days, grief feels a lot like rain.

It can arrive without warning. It can be gentle one moment and overwhelming the next. Sometimes it passes quickly, and sometimes it seems to settle in for a while.

And while we may wish we could skip the rainy days altogether, grief doesn’t work that way. Love and loss are intertwined, and the depth of our grief often reflects the depth of the love that came before it. 💙

The rainbow doesn’t mean the rain never happened. It doesn’t mean we have “moved on” or forgotten someone we love.

Sometimes the rainbow is simply a moment when we laugh again. 🌈
A memory that brings a smile instead of tears.
A song that suddenly feels comforting. 🎶
A day when getting out of bed feels just a little easier.

At the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, we know there is no timetable for grief and no single right way through it.

Through the rain, the sunshine, and everything in between, we are here to help. 💙

Today is a very special day at Prince George Hospice. 💜

Today is Donna’s last day before she begins a very well-deserved retirement!

Donna has made a lasting impact not only on Prince George Hospice, but throughout the City of Prince George and our community. Her dedication, compassion, leadership, and heart have touched countless lives over the years — including guests, families, volunteers, staff, colleagues, and community partners.

The work of Hospice is about people, and Donna has always understood that. She has helped strengthen a culture of care, support, dignity, and compassion that will continue long after her final day in the office.

Retirement may mark the end of one chapter, but what Donna has given to Hospice and to Prince George will remain part of our story for many years to come.

Donna, thank you for the years you have given, the relationships you have built, the lives you have touched, and the difference you have made. 💜

We hope retirement brings you plenty of time for the people, places, adventures, and little moments that make you happiest.

After a remarkable journey with the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, Donna is RETIRING — and while we are incredibly excited for the adventures ahead of her, it is hard to put into words just how much she has meant to our Hospice family and our community.

Donna has given so much of herself to Hospice.

Her time. Her energy. Her compassion. Her knowledge. Her laughter. And, perhaps most importantly, her heart. ❤️

Hospice work is about people. It is about being present during some of life's most difficult moments, supporting families when they need it most, and helping ensure that no one has to walk this journey alone.

Donna has lived those values.

Over the years, countless people have been touched by her dedication to Hospice — guests, families, volunteers, staff, colleagues, and members of our Prince George community.

Now it is our turn to celebrate HER! 🥂🎉

We invite everyone who has worked with Donna, volunteered alongside her, been supported by her, laughed with her, learned from her, or simply had the pleasure of knowing her to join us for Donna's Retirement Open House.

🏡 What Feels Like Home to You? ❤️

Hospice care is about so much more than a room, a bed, or medical care.

It is about the person.

At the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, we know that comfort looks different for everyone. Sometimes, it is found in the smallest and most familiar things.

🎵 A favourite song that brings back a lifetime of memories.
☕ The aroma of a favourite tea.
🍲 A meal that tastes like home.
🎬 A movie you have watched a hundred times and would happily watch once more.
🌿 Fresh air and a little time in the garden.
🧸 A cherished blanket brought from home.
❤️ Family gathered together, telling the same old stories and laughing at the same old jokes.

These things may seem small, but when someone is facing the end of life, small things can carry enormous meaning.

That is why we encourage our guests and their families to tell us what matters.

What brings comfort?
What brings joy?
What makes you feel most like yourself?
What would make today a little more meaningful?

Hospice isn't only about the end of life. It is about the life that is still being lived — the music, memories, laughter, favourite flavours, familiar voices, quiet moments and love that make each person uniquely who they are.

If something can bring a little more comfort, peace or meaning to you or someone you love, please tell us.

We are here to listen.
We are here to care.
And we are here to help make every moment matter. ❤️
