🐟 Thank You for an Incredible Community Salmon Release! 🐟

What an amazing day!

On behalf of SCWA, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our 10th Annual Community Salmon Release. Together, we released over 1000 Chinook salmon fry into the Nechako River, helping support the future of salmon in our region.

This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors Save-On-Foods, PG Portable Toilet Services, our dedicated volunteers, community partners, families, educators, and conservation-minded residents who came out to learn, participate, and celebrate salmon stewardship.

A special thank you goes to Patsy Seymour from Lheidli T'enneh for kicking off our celebration with a blessing and a beautiful speech.

Thank you to our Salmon Support Team, hatchery volunteers, and everyone who helped rear these fish from egg to fry. Your countless hours of dedication continue to make a real difference for salmon conservation in the Omineca Region.

We would also like to recognize all the community groups that participated in this year's release. Watching hundreds of people connect with conservation through a hands-on experience is exactly what this event is all about.

Every fry released represents hope for the future and a reminder that conservation is most successful when communities come together.

🦆 WE THINK WE'VE KEPT YOU WAITING LONG ENOUGH! 🦆

We are incredibly excited to announce the launch of our 1st Annual Duck Derby – Racing for Conservation!

🎟️ TICKETS ARE NOW ON SALE!

This is one fundraiser you won't want to miss. We expect tickets to sell quickly, so make sure your ducks are in a row!

How It Works

We will be selling 5,000 tickets/Ducks — and each ticket equals one duck in the race!

💲 Tickets/Ducks are $25 each

On October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM, all purchased ducks will be released into the Nechako River at the mouth of the newly restored Cottonwood Island Side Channel.

The ducks will race downstream through the side channel toward the finish line, where a specially designed collection system will funnel them into the Winners Tube.

The first three ducks into the Winners Tube will win:

🥇 1st Place – $20,000
🥈 2nd Place – $10,000
🥉 3rd Place – $5,000

But Wait... There's More! 👀

There is one special LUCKY DUCK!

Prior to the race, one duck number will be secretly selected by our insurer and sealed until race day.

💰 If that specific Lucky Duck finishes in 1st Place, the ticket holder will win an additional $50,000!

That's right — one lucky ticket could potentially be worth $70,000!

🐟 TOMORROW is our 10th Annual Community Salmon Send Off! 🐟

Join Spruce City Wildlife Association tomorrow, May 31, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM as we release some of the 60,000+ juvenile Chinook salmon into the Nechako River!

This free community event is a chance to learn about salmon conservation, release a threatened chinook salmon into the Nechako River, and celebrate the incredible work being done to rebuild local salmon stocks.

There has been so much happening at the lately, and we have a lot to share with everyone!

On May 10, we transported over 2,000 endangered Chinook salmon fry to the Valemount Chinook Salmon Fry Release event. It was an amazing day celebrating salmon conservation, community involvement, and helping the next generation of Chinook begin their journey starting at Swift Creek

A huge thank you to our partners, Simpcw First Nation, and Tourism Valemount, and thank you to everyone who helped make the event possible and to all the community members who came out to support salmon conservation in the Upper Fraser region. To support this amazing work, become a member today!

An extra special shout out goes to Tina Donald , who makes the trip multiple times each year to assist our Salmon Support Team with both brood collection efforts and community and bulk salmon releases. Her dedication, support, and commitment to salmon conservation are truly appreciated.
