Ever wonder who helps guide a non-profit behind the scenes?

Every non-profit needs a Board of Directors. A board provides governance, accountability and oversight—helping ensure the organization stays financially responsible, follows its mission and continues to serve its community well. Our Board is a governance board. Our staff handle the day-to-day work, while our Board helps guide the bigger picture.

And we’re looking for new Board members!

The commitment is pretty manageable:

* One meeting per month, held by Zoom
* About 3 hours per month
* 2-year term
* No regular meetings during the summer or December

You don’t need to be a mentoring expert. We’re looking for people who can bring different skills, experiences and perspectives to the table—and who care about creating opportunities for young people in Northern BC. Interested? DM us and let us know!

We’re going back to basics! Every day for the rest of the month we’ll share a little about who we are, how our agency works, and how it all helps support local kids and families.

First up: What is a non-profit, and what is a social enterprise?

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC is a non-profit organization and charity, and child care is our social enterprise.

Our child care centres provide quality care and programming for local families while also generating revenue that helps support our agency and our mentoring mission.

Supporting families. Supporting our agency. Supporting local youth. It’s a win for us all.

A new way to support our programs and our agency — while keeping everyone’s stuff organized!

We’ve partnered with Mabel’s Labels for an ongoing fundraiser! Mabel’s Labels are durable and waterproof, with tons of options for all the things that need a name on them — clothing, shoes, lunch kits, water bottles, school supplies, daycare gear and more.

Phew! It’s been a busy few weeks around here — one of the busiest times of year across all of our programs!

Now that the dust has settled, we want to take a moment to say a BIG thank you to Aberdeen Glen Golf Course and Prince George Golf & Curling Club !

Throughout August, these two incredible community partners hosted events, fundraisers and activities that helped us raise over $7,000. It’s community partners like you who enable us to make a difference in the lives of local children and youth.

We are so grateful for your hard work, generosity and continued support. Thank you for making The BIG Swing such a success! See you next year!
