Come see the results of winter bale grazing in the Cariboo! Saturday, August 22nd from 1:30 to 4pm in Horsefly BC 🐮🌾🤠🚜

We’ll learn how it was implemented and see and hear first hand about:
- condition and response;
- spread and amount of residues; and,
- the many benefits and considerations, such as wildlife interactions, soil health and GHG emissions, and potential fuel savings.

We’ll hear from the producer, a professional agrologist, and researcher on the practice and there will be with lots of time for you to ask your questions or share your experience.

This event is free to register online (https://airtable.com/appwDH6qt91MUT0wE/shrn9J5DlIBJD4xPZ ) or you can simply email [email protected] with your contact information.

Agenda and directions to the field day will be provided prior to the event.

Hope to see you then!

Happening NEXT week, this field day shares one of BC's OFCAF Demonstration Sites, where Rick Tegart of Chinook Meadow Ranch seeded three different cover crops to assess which is best to support his rotational grazing system, while supporting soil health and pasture renovation goals.

We will look at three treatment, discuss harvest options (bale vs graze 🤔), pasture renovation considerations, as well as rotational grazing principles and how virtual fencing supports Rick's adaptive grazing system.

A great day learning about intercropping and biodiversity at Aveley Ranch. 🌾

A big thank you to Joseph, the Moilliet family, and Aveley Ranch for hosting the event and sharing their knowledge. Thank you as well to our guest speaker, Jim Forbes, P. Ag, for sharing his expertise and contributing to the discussion. We'd also like to thank the BC Ministry of Agriculture and Food for their ongoing collaboration on this project, and everyone who joined us for an afternoon of learning and discussion.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the wildfires across British Columbia. We recognize the challenges many producers, ranching families, and communities are facing, and we're thinking of all those impacted.

Due to the ongoing Pear Lake wildfire, our Lone Butte Field Day is now tentative. The safety of our host producers, participants, and their livestock comes first, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely.

We will provide updates as they become available. Thank you for your understanding, and we hope everyone stays safe.

🐑Thinking about moving your lambing or kidding season to May or June? 🐐

Join the CFGA Young Ranchers Network on Wednesday, July 22 at 6:00 PM (BC PT) for an honest conversation with three producers who have made the switch.

Our producer panel will share:
🌱Why they changed their lambing/kidding dates
🌱The benefits they've experienced
🌱The challenges they faced
🌱Grazing management strategies that made it work
🌱Lessons learned and advice for others considering the change

Whether you're curious about later lambing or kidding, looking to reduce labour and feed costs, or simply want to hear real-world experiences from fellow producers, this is a discussion you won't want to miss.
