Why do we need to do taxes?

When and why did we start paying taxes? When Canada became a nation in 1867, the federal government began collecting individual taxes from citizens to pay for developing infrastructure and building the nation. Canadians began to pay additional taxes to the federal government around 1916, as a corporation tax to fund WWI was added to the personal tax burden. The provinces quickly formed, and those governments could collect taxes for provincial infrastructure needs....
