“Be nice” is ingrained in so many of us. So many of us heard it from parents, caregivers, teachers, and other adults in our lives. It’s such a common thing to say to young kids.

Saying “be nice” isn’t inherently bad or wrong. Sometimes though, kiddos need more specific support in the moment. What if when we hear ourselves say “be nice” we added more specific support and scaffolding afterwards.

Is “be nice” a phrase that comes up for you in the moment?
