Summer learning is in full swing at Nusdeh Yoh and it looks a little different than your average camp! 🌿

This summer, Nusdeh Yoh is hosting two-week camps for about 65 students. Camp mornings are spent on land-based learning, including hikes at Moore's Meadows and Eskers, plus a new math component that connects real-world concepts to nature. Afternoons include swimming or riding at the community’s skate park.

We're especially proud to have former Nusdeh Yoh students, now in secondary school, return as peer mentors. 🫂

Led by Community School Coordinator Alison Thibodeau and supported by grants from Right To Play and the BC government's Civil Forfeiture Fund, the camp is free and open to all students.

It's the kind of summer they'll never forget. 💫

To all the families with a little one starting Kindergarten this September, we’ve got you! 🎒

Big milestones are on the horizon and we want you to know that SD57 teachers and support staff are here to make the transition as smooth and exciting as possible.

One of the ways we do that is through gradual entry, a process where Kindergarten students start by attending for a few hours or half days and, depending on your school, smaller groups. This gives each child the chance to get comfortable with their new classroom, teacher and friends before full days start.

It's a small step that makes a big difference, for kids and parents alike. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒

Keep an eye out for information from your school about gradual entry dates and what to expect in those first magical days. 🌟

At Morfee Elementary, Grade 6 graduation comes with one very important tradition: the Soak-a-Six! 😎

Every year, the school community comes together to give Grade 6s a sendoff they won't forget and this year was no exception.

With the Morfee PAC and the Mackenzie Fire Department joining in, it was exactly the kind of joyful, community-driven moment that makes our district special. 🧑‍🚒

To this year's Grade 6s: the best is still ahead. We can't wait to see all of the amazing things you achieve! 🎊🎓

For a third year, Quinson Elementary students gave the Cops for Cancer Tour de North riders the sendoff they deserved! 🚴

Quinson hosted the official kick-off event for Tour de North, welcoming 15 riders who will hit the road from September 11 to 17 and cover more than 800 km from Dawson Creek to Williams Lake.

This event will support the Canadian Cancer Society's Camp Goodtimes, a summer camp specifically for children affected by pediatric cancer.

"Kids really are the heart behind this program. It’s why we come to the school, it gives our riders energy and it’s so wonderful to support the schools as well, and for the schools to support us," said Tour de North Coordinator, Janine Mendes in an interview with CKPG.

Last year's riders raised an incredible total of $280,000. This year's goal is $250,000 and with the energy of cheering students behind them, we have no doubt that they'll get there. 💛

We’ll be wishing them luck on every kilometre of the journey this September! 🤩

SD57 students, get ready for takeoff! ✈️

The SD57 Board of Education has unanimously approved two exciting new courses at the Centre for Learning Alternatives (CLA): Aviation 12 and Future Focus.

🧑‍✈️ Aviation 12 is developed in partnership with Guardian Aerospace at the Prince George International Airport. This program gives students a deep dive into the science of flight, aircraft design, air law, navigation, meteorology and more.

💼 Future Focus differs from previous work experience offerings in the district. Instead of simply trying out various career paths, Grades 10–12 students have their hands-on learning activities logged by teachers and counsellors, which translate directly into school credits.

More pathways, more opportunities and more ways for students to discover what they’re passionate about. 💫

Spruceland Community School of the Arts, Prince George's first-ever choice arts school, recently put on its third annual Arts Extravaganza and it did not disappoint! 🎨

Back in May, the school hallways were transformed into a full gallery for a night, with students showcasing paintings, sculptures, fashion designs, paper mache, sketches and more.

Every participating student also presented an artist statement, taking ownership of their work and building real skills in public speaking and self-confidence. 🗣️

"All of our students are artists. We want them to see themselves as artists,” said Principal Stephanie Coates.

From fake cakes that looked good enough to eat to a stunning interpretation of the Great Wave of Kanagawa inspired by Claude Debussy's "La Mer," the creativity on display was a testament to how far these young artists have come.

Three years in and the talent and creativity at Spruceland just keeps growing. 🌟
