Boreal Healthcare Foundation

Boreal Healthcare Foundation Our Foundation raises funds within our community to ensure our local hospital has the right piece of medical equipment, at the right time, to save lives.

The Victoria Hospital Foundation is the registered charity charged with the task of "enhancing and enriching" the quality of health care at the Victoria Regional Hospital. In recent years we have raised funds for numerous pieces of medical equipment that needed to be replaced or upgraded. There is a continuing need for funding due in part to the rapid advances being made in medical treatments available and the technology of today.

Tom thought he had COVID. He was wrong.

In 2021, while recovering from surgery for bowel cancer, lifelong northern Saskatchewan resident Tom Tilford developed a persistent cough. When his condition worsened, he went straight to the Emergency Department at Victoria Hospital.

Doctors quickly discovered that Tom was suffering from a life threatening sepsis infection. He needed surgery, and he needed it quickly.

He received that surgery right here in Prince Albert.

“They treated me so well and took such good care of me in emergency. They did the surgery right there. I can’t say enough good things about the care that I received at the hospital.”

For Tom, having the care he needed available close to home made all the difference.

And his story is one of the reasons the expansion of Victoria Hospital matters.

The new hospital will give healthcare teams more capacity, new and expanded services, and equipment to care for more patients from Prince Albert and across northern Saskatchewan.

Because behind every new room, every piece of equipment and every expansion of local care is a person like Tom.

A neighbour. A friend. A family member.

Someone who may one day need the right care, at the right time, right here at home.

Through Equip the Vic, our community is helping prepare the new Victoria Hospital for those moments.

Because when that moment comes, having the care you need close to home can mean everything.

It’s incredible to watch this tower rise, little by little, right here in our community.

This new tower at Victoria Hospital is so much more than a construction project. It means more space for patients, more services here at home, and better access to care for families from Prince Albert and communities across northern Saskatchewan.

For people who have had to travel hours for appointments, tests, procedures or specialized care, that matters. For families who want to stay close to the people they love when they are sick, it matters.

There is still work to do, and our community still has an important role to play. Every person who donates, fundraises, shares the campaign or chooses to get involved becomes part of what we are building here.

One day, we’ll look at this tower full of patients, families, nurses, doctors and healthcare teams and remember when we watched it rise.

And we’ll know our community helped make it happen. 💙

What an incredible way to spend a Saturday! 🐐💛

A huge thank you to Valerie MacDougall and Chuck Hawkins, and to everyone who registered, donated, volunteered, or helped behind the scenes to make this year’s Baby Goat Yoga fundraiser such a success.

It’s amazing what can happen when someone takes a fun idea and turns it into something meaningful for local healthcare.

From baby goat yoga to trivia nights, bake sales, craft fairs and everything in between, there are so many ways to bring people together and make a difference.

Thank you for another wonderful year of Baby Goat Yoga and for supporting better healthcare, close to home. 💛
