Yesterday, our team arrived in Cumberland House to begin the SK River Delta Project, a collaboration between Cbyf PrinceAlbert, artist Wally Dion, the Mann Art Gallery, Common Weal Community Arts, the Kwecic Museum, and All My Relations Creative Connections with generous support from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Our first stop was iskwêw rapids where the E.B. Campbell Dam is.

Standing between Tobin Lake on one side and the Saskatchewan River Delta on the other, the contrast was impossible to ignore. Concrete and consumption. Beauty and disruption. A reminder that every decision we make upstream echoes across the lands, waters, and communities downstream.

This project is about an Indigenous youth, led by Aaliyah Flett, using art as advocacy to help give voice to the Delta and to share the stories woven into these waters; of the people, the plants, the animals, the birds, and the fish that have lived together in relationship with this place since time immemorial.

What an incredible afternoon celebrating the reveal of the Back Door Art Gallery in downtown Prince Albert! We are so grateful to have been part of this project and to see it finally come to life.

It was an honour to capture the reveal through photography and to support the project behind the scenes through our work with Studio Q, helping with coordination and the artwork selection process. Watching these vibrant and meaningful works transform downtown spaces has been inspiring, and seeing so many artists, community members, and supporters come together to celebrate made the unveiling even more special.

The Back Door Art Gallery is a creative partnership between Studio Q - Prism Project, the Mann Art Gallery, and the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District. A huge shoutout to all of the partners, artists, and supporters who helped make this project possible. Special thanks to Emma Anderson for creating the initial proposal that sparked the vision for this project, the City of Prince Albert Public Art Stimulus Fund and PADBID for their support, and the Mann Art Gallery, and Studio Q.

Here is a sneakpeak of some of the pieces. If you're heading to Street Fair this weekend, be sure to take some time to explore the Back Door Art Gallery and experience these amazing artworks for yourself. We encourage everyone to wander downtown, discover the installations, and celebrate the artists who helped make this project possible.

We’re feeling incredibly grateful and proud.

Through our Artists in Communities self-portrait workshops, we had the opportunity to collaborate with 9 artists to create Studio Qrew: A Self-Portrait Series, which was submitted to the Mann Art Gallery Winter Festival Art Show and Sale, where it was awarded the Northern Image Photography Award.

This work is rooted in connection, creativity, and the power of people self-determining how they are seen, asserting their identities on their own terms. Huge thank you to the collaborating artists, Artists in Communities, and the Mann Art Gallery.

Northern Spirits is back and what a powerful week it has been.

All My Relations Creative Connections had the absolute privilege of being part of its return this year. We spent the week with youth from Prince Albert and communities across northern Saskatchewan as they prepared for their showcase at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre on Thursday night.

Founded in 2006 by Sheryl Kimbley and inspired by the late Bernice Sayese, Northern Spirits has long been a space where northern youth can explore their creativity, build confidence, and find their voices. After losing funding in 2019/2020, it is incredibly moving to see this program reignited by the next generation, with LJ and Kyle Kimbley working alongside community partners to bring it back stronger than ever.

This week reminded us why we do what we do and why accessible, supportive arts opportunities matter so deeply. ART SAVES LIVES. These young people had so much to share. They were proud, excited, and honoured to step onto that big stage and share their gifts with the community. The courage, talent, and heart in that theatre was something we will not soon forget.

We wrapped up the week feeling grateful, awestruck, and inspired.

A huge thank you to the funders who made this relaunch possible, and to the countless volunteers, chaperones, mentors, and organizers who poured their time and care into these youth. It truly takes a community to create a space like this, and Northern Spirits is proof of what can happen when we show up for young people.
