🌱🌲 Planting for the Future in La Ronge!

Yesterday, June 9, the Prince Albert Model Forest partnered with the Town of La Ronge and Churchill Community High School for a community tree planting event at Morley Wilson Park.

The day began with a blessing and to***co offering led by Elder Tom Roberts. Throughout the day, approximately 60 students from Grade 7 to high school helped plant 340 White Spruce seedlings, along with 20 cherry trees (Choke cherry and Sour Cherry 'cupid') and 20 haskap blizzard, contributing to a greener and healthier community.

A special thank you to PRT Prince Albert for generously donating the spruce seedlings that made this initiative possible.

It was wonderful to see students connecting with nature, giving back to their community, and helping grow a greener future. We look forward to supporting more community-led tree planting and environmental stewardship initiatives in the years ahead.

What can a forest teach us?

Boreal Biologue, a partnership between the Prince Albert Model Forest (PAMF) and CPAWS-Saskatchewan , connects participants with the boreal forest through hands-on outdoor learning and exploration.

On our first Boreal Biologue tour of 2026, students from Wesmor Public High School stepped into two very different worlds: an old-growth jack pine forest near Little Red River Park and a landscape shaped by the 2021 Cloverdale wildfire.
By observing plants, animals, fungi, and signs of regeneration, students discovered that fire is not only a force of destruction, it is also a natural part of renewal in the boreal forest. Along the way, they explored biodiversity, climate change, forest resilience, and the stories the land has to tell.

This World Environment Day, we're celebrating curiosity, outdoor learning, and the next generation of environmental stewards.

A big thank you to the students and staff from Wesmor Public High School for joining us for the first Boreal Biologue of the season. We look forward to engaging with many more students and communities throughout the summer.
