PrinceAlbert Spca The Prince Albert SPCA is a Non-Profit Organization dedicated to promoting kindness and preventing cruelty to animals through education, advocation and action.

Just a friendly reminder that the Prince Albert SPCA will be closed on Monday, October 12th, in recognition of Thanksgiving.

We will reopen for our regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13th, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

After reviewing the job market, I have noticed a concerning number of positions advertising benefits such as “lazy Sundays,” “Netflix marathons,” and “sleeping in.”

I am seeking a family that understands the difference between a tired dog and a fulfilled dog.

Sure, you can take me for a long run. But I would also LOVE to learn new commands, practice obedience, try scent work, tackle enrichment puzzles or participate in activities where I get to use this magnificent brain of mine.

I don’t just want to burn energy. I want to accomplish things.

And before anyone asks, no, barking at the mailman is not the kind of employment I’m looking for. I have bigger ambitions. 😂

My ideal employer will be active, patient, consistent and genuinely excited about working WITH a dog rather than simply owning one.

In return, I offer loyalty, enthusiasm, companionship and the opportunity to have a four-legged best friend who thinks absolutely everything you do together is the greatest idea you’ve ever had.

My five-year career goal?

Three little boys. Six floppy ears. And three forever homes waiting to be found!

We currently have three incredible male Holland Lop bunnies available for adoption, and these little guys are ready to show someone just how wonderful life with a rabbit can be. 🥹

Bunnies are such underrated companions. They’re intelligent, curious, social and full of personality. They can learn routines, use a litter box, play with toys, recognize their people and develop incredibly sweet bonds with their families. ❤️

But before falling in love with those floppy ears, there’s something we want potential adopters to know:

Bunnies need space! 🐰🏡

A traditional little “bunny cage” is not an appropriate full-time home for a rabbit. Our boys are looking for families prepared to provide a safe, bunny-proofed area where they can stretch out, hop, run, explore and just be bunnies.

That might mean a large exercise pen, their own bunny room or a safely bunny-proofed portion of your home where they can free-range. They still need a home base for their litter box, hay, water and somewhere comfortable to relax — but they shouldn’t spend their lives confined to a small cage.

And trust us, giving them that freedom is half the fun! ❤️

There’s something pretty adorable about watching a happy bunny race around the room, flop dramatically onto the floor, investigate everything you’re doing and eventually settle in knowing they’re safe and loved.

If you’ve been considering adding a bunny to your family, we have three very handsome little Holland Lop boys who would love to meet you. 🐰🐰🐰

HI EVERYONE!!! 👋🐶

My name is Bark.

Yes. Bark.

I’m a dog named Bark.

We can discuss the creativity of that later because I have BIG NEWS.

I was informed that I GET TO BE THE SPECIAL FEATURE TODAY.

Me!!!

⭐ BARK: THE FEATURE ⭐

Naturally, I have prepared a few things I would like everyone to know about me.

First: I am 11 months old.

Second: I am extremely handsome.

Third: I had the BEST DAY EVER TODAY.

But I should probably start at the beginning.

I actually came to the Prince Albert SPCA from another shelter. I had been waiting there for my forever family for quite a while, but for some strange reason nobody realized that I am clearly an excellent dog.

Eventually they told me:

“Bark, buddy. You’re going on an adventure. We’re going to find your family somewhere new.”

AN ADVENTURE?!

SAY LESS.

I packed absolutely nothing because I am a dog and have no belongings, and off I went. 😂

And today my adventure got EVEN BETTER.

I got to go to Little Red River Park for the VERY FIRST TIME. 🌲🍂

GUYS.

WHY HAS NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT THIS PLACE?!

There are trails EVERYWHERE.

Hills?!

LOVE THEM.

Big tree roots?!

CLIMBED THEM.

Fallen trees?!

OVER THEM.

Leaves?!

SNIFFED THEM.

Random sticks?!

INSPECTED.

I was absolutely thriving.

My dog walker was taking videos because apparently everyone needs to see how adventurous and handsome I am.

And I understood the assignment.

I was giving her National Geographic.

Majestic young dog explores the wilderness.

Fearless.

Athletic.

Powerful.

And then we came across…

The Bridge.

Now.

I would personally hesitate to call this a bridge.

It was more like…

some logs.

Over water.

😐

But apparently we were supposed to walk across it.

I had never done this before, but I thought:

Bark, you are an outdoorsman now.

You climb hills.

You conquer forests.

You can cross some logs.

So I stepped up.

Placed one paw carefully in front of the other…

and—

SPLOOSH.

I fell in.

😂

BUT THAT’S OKAY.

Everybody makes mistakes.

I climbed back out, collected myself and prepared for Round Two.

This time I knew what I was doing.

I approached confidently.

Stepped onto the logs.

Focused.

Balanced.

Determined.

And—

SPLOOSH.

I FELL IN AGAIN.

😭😂

At this point I would like to make it VERY clear that my dog walker was recording.

I have formally requested that this footage never see the light of day.

I have an adoption profile to maintain.

Please remember me as the brave forest explorer I was before the bridge.

Thank you.

Anyway.

Shortly after my aquatic humiliation, we met two lovely ladies on the trail.

And obviously I had to say hello.

They gave me scritches.

They gave me pets.

They told me I was a good boy.

FINALLY. PEOPLE WHO UNDERSTAND ME.

I hope I see them again. 🥹❤️

Which brings me to the whole reason I’m telling you my story.

I’m still looking for my person.

Or people.

Or family.

Honestly, I’m not picky because I LOVE EVERYBODY.

I love meeting people.

I love other dogs.

I make friends FAST.

And do you have a car?!

PERFECT.

Because I LOVE car rides.

Open the door and I am hopping in with a giant smile like:

WHERE ARE WE GOING?!

The answer could literally be “nowhere important.”

I do not care.

I AM COMING.

🚗💨🐶

My dog walker also told me people go biking at Little Red.

Excuse me?!

You mean you get on a bicycle…

I get to RUN…

and we go REALLY FAST?!

I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION IMMEDIATELY.

But here’s the thing.

I don’t need every day to be a huge adventure.

I’m really just looking for someone who wants to do life with me. ❤️

Take me on the trails.

Let me sniff the fall leaves.

Show me what winter adventures are like.

Take me for car rides with the windows cracked so my ears can flap around.

Let me feel the warm sunshine.

Let me run.

Let me explore.

Let me meet new friends.

And then…

when we’re tired…

let’s go home.

We can flop on the couch together.

You can tell me I’m the best boy.

I’ll probably try to take up way more couch than necessary.

And tomorrow morning?

We can wake up and do it all over again.

I’m only 11 months old.

I have my WHOLE LIFE ahead of me.

And I would really, really like to spend it with someone who thinks life is a little more fun when you have a Bark tagging along. 🥹❤️

So…

Do you have room in your car?

Room on your couch?

Room in your life for one ridiculously happy, friendly, adventurous young dog?

Because I’m ready.

Just one small request.

For our first family outing…

Could we maybe go somewhere with a normal bridge?

I’ve been through enough.

🌻 Cleaning up the garden? Don’t toss those extras just yet! 🥕🌿

As gardens start winding down for the season, we’d LOVE to put some of those extras to good use here at the Prince Albert SPCA!

🐰 Extra garden produce?
If you have fresh, bunny/rodent-safe vegetables or herbs that you simply have more of than you know what to do with, consider donating them to help feed and provide some tasty enrichment for the little critters in our care!

🌱 And don’t forget about your seeds!

We’re already thinking ahead to our Plant Sale next spring, and we would absolutely LOVE donations of seed heads from your gardens!

If you have plants that have finished blooming and gone to seed, things like:

🌻 Sunflower heads
🌼 Marigold seed heads
🌿 Dill
🌸 Calendula
🌺 Nasturtiums
🌱 Herbs that have flowered and gone to seed
🌼 Or other garden flowers and plants with mature seeds

Don’t worry about harvesting or cleaning the seeds yourself! You can bring us the whole dried plant, stalks or simply the flower/seed heads, and we will do the seed harvesting. 🙌

Those seeds can be saved over the winter, started next year and turned into beautiful plants for our spring Plant Sale — helping raise funds for the animals in our care. ❤️

So before those end-of-season garden goodies hit the compost pile, think of the SPCA! 🐾

A little bit of this year’s garden could feed an animal today or become part of next year’s garden. 🌱💚

Our dog adoption gallery has a whole bunch of new faces… and apparently we’re doing things BIG around here! 😂❤️

Our newest crew is made up of some pretty incredible large breed dogs, each with their own personality, quirks and idea of what makes the perfect forever family.

We have active adventure buddies, intelligent working breeds, affectionate lovebugs, confident companions and some very good boys and girls who are just waiting for someone to notice them. 🥹

There are some dogs who come through our doors, find their families and leave a little piece of themselves behind with us forever.

Rosemary is one of those dogs. ❤️

And if there were ever a world championship for puppy dog eyes, we’re pretty sure Rosemary would take home the gold. 🥹

But truthfully, those big, soulful eyes have seen more in just 2 years of life than they ever should have.

When Rosemary first came into our care, she was severely emaciated.

She was so thin, so depleted and in such poor condition that, in all honesty, we weren’t sure she was going to make it.

Even with everything we could give her — good food, medical attention, warmth, comfort and people cheering her on every step of the way — her little body had an enormous battle ahead of it.

But Rosemary had apparently already decided something.

She wasn’t finished yet.

This girl fought.

Meal by meal.
Day by day.
Pound by pound.

Slowly, we watched those beautiful eyes get brighter. We watched her body get stronger. We watched her begin to feel better.

And now we finally get to say the words we have been waiting for:

Rosemary is ready to find her forever family. 🥹❤️

And whoever gets to call this girl theirs is getting a truly once-in-a-lifetime kind of dog.

Rosemary is quite possibly one of the most gentle-natured dogs you could ever meet. She is sweet, calm, quiet and incredibly laid-back. She loves love. She wants to be close to her people, she is incredibly eager to please and she will do just about anything you ask of her.

And despite everything she has been through, Rosemary absolutely loves making friends.

She is incredibly eager to meet other dogs and would love having some canine friends in her life. 🐶❤️ With her soft, gentle nature, we also believe she could do wonderfully in a home with cats and children.

And then there is food.

Understandably, Rosemary is VERY food motivated.

When you consider where she came from, it makes sense. There was a time when her body was quite literally fighting to survive, and that history doesn’t disappear the moment her bowl starts arriving regularly.

She has even developed a habit of trying to eat things that definitely aren’t food — including rocks. 😅 We are actively working with her on this and teaching her that she will never need to be that desperate for something to eat again.

Because of her history, Rosemary’s future family will need to continue monitoring her feeding and her behaviour around food, especially as she settles into a new environment and learns that meals are something she can depend on. They will also need to continue managing her tendency to pick up and eat inappropriate objects while we work toward leaving that habit in her past.

She is still continuing her weight-gain journey, too. She has come an incredible distance, but her story isn’t quite finished.

That’s where her family comes in.

At only 2 years old, Rosemary has an entire lifetime ahead of her.

And after seeing what the beginning of her life looked like, we want the rest of it to be everything she deserved from the start.

Full bowls.
Soft beds.
Doggy friends.
A family to adore.
Safe places to sleep.
A home where she never has to wonder when she’ll eat again.

And someone who looks into those ridiculous puppy dog eyes every single day and reminds her just how loved she is. ❤️

Rosemary fought incredibly hard to get here.

Now she doesn’t need to fight anymore.

She just needs someone to show her what it feels like to finally be home. 🥹🐾

Meet Beau — the 6½-year-old proof that you should NEVER judge a dog by his distinguished little old-man face. 😂❤️

Because Beau may look like he should be sitting in a recliner, reading the morning newspaper and complaining about the price of groceries…

…but this gentleman has S***K.

Beau LOVES his walks. He loves getting outside. He loves exploring. He loves meeting new people. And at 6½ years old, he is more than happy to show you that there is still plenty of pep left in those legs!

He’s basically an old man on the outside and a young whippersnapper on the inside. 😂

And underneath that adorably weathered face is one seriously incredible dog.

Beau is wicked smart and already has quite the résumé of tricks and commands. He knows sit, stay, lay down, go to bed and more. He listens beautifully, loves engaging with people and is the kind of dog who makes you realize pretty quickly that there’s a whole lot going on behind those sweet eyes. 🧠🐾

But what really gets you is his personality.

Beau is just… lovable.

He’s friendly, social and genuinely enjoys being around people. He’ll happily head out for a walk with you, make some friends along the way, enjoy his outside time and then remind you exactly why those distinguished grey faces are absolutely irresistible.

He has that special something that makes it very difficult to spend time with him without becoming completely smitten. 🥹

At 6½, Beau is at such a wonderful age. He’s past the puppy chaos, he already knows how to be a very good boy, but he still has so many adventures ahead of him.

Walks to take.
Places to explore.
Friends to make.
Beds to nap in.
And a whole lot of love left to give. ❤️

Whoever gives this handsome gentleman his forever home is going to have one heck of a best friend.

Just be warned…
