Carl & Brenda have faithfully served in full-time ministry for over 30 years through several different mission agencies, with much of their ministry focused on church planting and children’s ministry.

Carl first connected with NCEM back in the mid-1980s when he spent a summer in Carmacks, Yukon, through NCEM’s summer missions program. That experience gave him a lasting appreciation for the mission and the communities NCEM serves.

More recently, God led Carl & Brenda to officially join NCEM, where they continue serving through children’s ministry, Bible teaching, and local church involvement.

Over the years, they have ministered in communities such as Red Earth and Shoal Lake First Nations, leading Vacation Bible Schools, school sessions, and sharing the Gospel with children and families. Bible camp ministry has especially remained close to Carl’s heart. He has served as a speaker at NCEM’s Big River Bible Camp and Pine Ridge Bible Camp, as well as other camps, faithfully teaching God’s Word to children and youth.

Through decades of ministry, Carl & Brenda continue to encourage churches, invest in young lives, and point people toward the hope found in Christ.

If you’d like to support Carl & Brenda in their ministry, you can do so through the NCEM website.

Karen Emke joined NCEM in 2012 and has faithfully served in a wide variety of ministries ever since. Originally from Wingham, Ontario, she attended Word of Life Bible Institute in Owen Sound before serving on staff there for three years.

As God continued to lead her toward missions, Karen spent a year and a half training at the Ethnos Missionary Training Centre in Durham, Ontario, preparing for ministry with NCEM.

Over the years, many people have come to know Karen through her cooking ministry at Pine Ridge Bible Camp, Big River Bible Camp, and other ministry events throughout the year. Whether preparing meals for campers, staff, or ministry teams, Karen’s service has been a practical and faithful way of caring for others behind the scenes.

Later, Karen moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, where she served around NCEM Headquarters in many different roles while continuing to help with camp cooking and children’s ministry whenever needed.

In 2023, God led Karen into a new season of ministry in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where she joined NCEM’s missionary church planting team. Today she continues serving faithfully, using both practical helps and personal relationships to encourage others and point people toward Christ.

If you’d like to support Karen Emke in her ministry, you can do so through the NCEM website.

After many years serving with NCEM’s Printshop in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and later at the mission’s USA Office in Billings, Montana, Kit & Debbie Elford now serve as emeritus members from their home in Townsend, Montana.

For Kit, missionary life began long before adulthood. Raised by missionary parents, Bud & Marge Elford, he grew up across northern communities including Churchill, Brochet, Ft. McPherson, and Cold Lake. “I realized I had nowhere to go if I didn’t like it,” Kit once reflected about missionary life. “I was home.”

Growing up in northern ministry shaped Kit deeply. He came to know Christ as a young person and understood early that the communities around him were watching not only his family’s ministry, but his own life as well.

Debbie, raised in the United States, also had a spiritual journey that led her toward Christ and eventually toward missions. Though she had many early exposures to church and the Gospel, she shares that it wasn’t until after Bible college and marriage to Kit that she fully surrendered her life to the Lord.

While completing their internship year at Bible college, the couple wrestled with what direction life should take. Kit admits he wasn’t eager for missions at the time, preferring the idea of comfort and financial stability. But after surrendering the decision to God and asking Him to clearly open the door, an unexpected letter arrived from NCEM asking if they would consider serving in the mission’s Printshop.

In God’s providence, Kit had learned printing during his trades training in college. In 1976, the Elfords moved to Prince Albert to begin ministry with NCEM — stepping into a life of faith and trusting God to provide.

Over the years, God faithfully used Kit & Debbie through printing ministry, administration, encouragement, and faithful service behind the scenes. Their story is one of surrender, provision, and learning that God truly is faithful to lead and provide for those He calls.

The Eagles were “re-welcomed” into NCEM in 2018, though their connection with the mission stretches back even further. For several years before officially rejoining, they faithfully helped around the former Key-Way-Tin Bible Institute campus in Lac La Biche, Alberta.

After returning to NCEM, the Eagles served at Arrowhead Native Bible Center in New Brunswick before stepping into an itinerant music and preaching ministry focused on promoting First Nations missions and encouraging churches across Canada.

Through music, testimony, and the preaching of God’s Word, they traveled widely, sharing the importance of Indigenous ministry and pointing people toward Christ.

In 2023, the Eagles retired from full-time traveling ministry. Today they divide their time between Lac La Biche, Alberta, and New Brunswick, grateful for the many years God allowed them to serve and encourage others through NCEM.

We’re thankful for the Eagles’ faithful ministry and the lasting impact they’ve had across many communities and churches.

Summer is coming quickly—and for many kids and youth, it brings change.

Some are finishing school and wondering what’s next.
Some are getting ready for Bible camp or other programs.
Some will stay home, work, or spend time with family.

It’s a season full of transition, opportunity, and sometimes uncertainty.

Would you pray with us for the young people we connect with?

🙏 Pray for peace for those stepping into the unknown.
🙏 Pray for protection and wise choices throughout the summer months.
🙏 Pray that those attending camps or programs would encounter Jesus in a real way.
🙏 Pray that even in quiet or ordinary days, hearts would be open to God’s work.

Summer may feel like a break—but it can also be a time when God does something new.

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example…”
— 1 Timothy 4:12

Thank you for praying with us.

Across Canada, camps connected with ncem.ca are preparing for a summer of sharing the Gospel, discipling youth, and creating spaces where lives can be changed by Jesus.
Please pray for the campers, staff, speakers, volunteers, safety, and for hearts to be open to the Gospel this summer.
And maybe God is calling you to be part of it.
Many camps are still looking for volunteers willing to serve in all kinds of ways this summer. Your “yes” could make a bigger impact than you realize.

Not all ministry happens in open spaces some of it happens behind locked doors.

Across Canada, some of our missionaries are serving in correctional facilities, walking alongside men and women who are asking questions about life, faith, and what comes next. These are places where hope can feel distant but the gospel still reaches in.

This kind of ministry requires patience, wisdom, and deep compassion.

Would you pray with us?

🙏 Pray for open hearts among those who are hearing the gospel.
🙏 Pray for meaningful conversations that point to truth and hope.
🙏 Pray for wisdom and discernment for missionaries in every interaction.
🙏 Pray for lasting change not just in the moment but for life beyond prison.

No place is outside of God’s reach.
And no life is beyond His redemption.

“I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
Matthew 25:36

Thank you for praying with us.

Did you know NCEM sets aside one day each month to pray together?

Tomorrow, May 13th, missionaries and staff across the country will be taking intentional time to seek the Lord—lifting up the mission, our leaders, personal needs, our government, world situations, and so much more.

We don’t want to do this work without God.
Prayer isn’t an extra—it’s essential.

Would you join us?

Wherever you are, you can take a few moments tomorrow to pray alongside us. You don’t need a schedule or a script—just a willing heart.

🙏 Pray for the mission and the work happening across Canada.
🙏 Pray for our leaders and missionaries.
🙏 Pray for personal needs within the mission.
🙏 Pray for our country and the world around us.

There is something powerful about coming together in prayer—even when we’re spread across the country.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
— James 5:16

Thank you for praying with us.
