Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future

June marks National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada.

This month invites us to:

- Learn from the stories and knowledge passed down through generations.
- Reflect on the resilience, strength, and diversity of Indigenous communities.
- Acknowledge both the histories and ongoing impacts of the past
- Support a future grounded in respect, understanding, and reconciliation.

As we honour Indigenous voices and experiences, we also embrace a future built on meaningful relationships, inclusion, and shared learning.

Let us each take time this month—and beyond—to listen, learn, and walk forward together.

World No To***co Day - Sunday, May 31.

This year’s theme is “Unmasking the Appeal: Countering Ni****ne and To***co Addiction.”

The to***co industry continues to target youth with:

- Trendy flavours
- Social media marketing
- Sleek, appealing packaging

These tactics are designed to hide the real dangers of ni****ne addiction. It’s up to all of us to recognize these strategies and help protect our children and communities.

Together with the Northern To***co Strategy and partners, we’re working toward a smoke-free generation.

Let’s expose the truth behind to***co marketing.

Protecting health and supporting communities, let’s stand up for our youth.

Reclaiming Traditional Teachings

Commercial to***co is not the same as the sacred to***co used in many Indigenous cultures.

This World No To***co Day, we honour traditional teachings and raise awareness about the harms of commercial to***co and ni****ne addiction. Traditional to***co—such as asemaa—is a sacred medicine used for prayer, ceremonies, and showing respect. It is not meant for recreational use or physical dependence.

By reclaiming these teachings, we can better understand the important distinction between cultural traditions and the health risks of commercial to***co—and support healthier communities grounded in respect, knowledge, and tradition.

Food, water, shelter, and love make a healthy dog.

Dogs thrive when their basic needs are met. Food, water, warm shelter, and affection build trust and calm behaviour. A cared for dog is a healthier, happier companion.

A little care goes a long way.

Protecting Our Youth

Our youth are sacred and carry the strength of future generations. To***co and va**ng companies often use flavours, social media, and trendy products to attract them.

Together, through education, prevention, and support, we can empower our youth to make healthy choices and protect their wellbeing.
