VOLUNTEER CALLOUT: PLEASE SHARE WIDELY!

With some very cold nights coming quickly and snow in the forecast for next week we are looking for some late night volunteers to call on in the event of the Clubhouse needing to stay open from 6pm - midnight. If you are able to do a portion of the evening but not all that is still helpful.

Please specify the dates & times you might be available when contacting us. We do not have exact dates since we won't know what the weather will be doing until the days get closer but likely around/ between December 31st - January 6th.

We encourage everyone to contact us if you are interested, and especially people with first aid training + experience responding.

Thanks in advance everyone ❤️

There is a staff report exploring extreme weather response planning and use of city owned spaces to operate extreme weather warming centers or shelter on this weeks Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday December 16th. To sum up the report: the new shelter will open at the end of February 2026, there were no city owned spaces for EWR warming spaces, and no plan. Youth CAT has put out a call to action.

Even small donations can help in big ways! If cooking or serving a meal for 20-30 is not in your wheelhouse, here are some smaller items that are requested regularly that can be dropped off at 7156 Duncan St. Tuesday- Sunday, between 6-8pm. Will update this list if/when we have satisfied the needs :)

Hey everyone! We are in need of ongoing volunteers for the meal train (SIGN UP LINK BELOW) which can look a few different ways. Our highest need has been for servers, with the dinners being a close second. Below is an idea of what each of those can look like.

A serving shift is typically from 6pm-8pm (**if you can only do an hour or something this is still helpful, but please indicate this when signing up**). It involves either serving dinner portions or handing out pre-portioned meals. It may include putting on a pot of coffee or hot water for tea. At the end of the night, volunteers & Clubhouse members tidy the space for the next day (wipe down surfaces, change garbages, possibly some dishes).

Helping provide food & drinks is also essential to us continuing this meal train. Cooking a meal for 20-30 people can be daunting and we get that! Whatever each person can offer is helpful. If that is being able to provide 15 portions that is okay (**please indicate portion size when signing up**). We suggest getting together with friends or family for an undertaking of large meal portions!

It's also very helpful to have snacks and drinks to share with folks. This can be donating a tin of hot chocolate mix (very popular), bottles of water or electrolyte drinks, desserts, etc.

Wow! Thank you so much for all who supported us in this contest, and for this generosity and example of community care from kind folks to the east at the Nelson Tennis Club! Acts of kindness like this are inspiring and hopefully contagious. ❤️⚡️

Here’s the story we promised of how we have a THIRD AED to give away.

In the spirit of Community, Nelson Tennis Club didn’t just celebrate their own win, they went above and beyond.

They had reached out to us with an incredible offer - to pitch in and make sure the third-place team also received an AED.

Their contribution of half the cost of an AED, together with Iridia’s support, made it possible for us to provide a third one to a deserving participant.

Because of the Club's kindness, Coalition to End Homelessness qathet will now have life-saving equipment to protect their community.

This is what true teamwork and compassion look like - thank you, Nelson Tennis Club, for making a difference!

Hello community! The time has come for us to look for a good condition, large capacity washing machine (or 2!)! This would be for our clubhouse for folks to be able to wash bedding and clothing in this gnarly weather! We do have a small budget, please let us know if you know of any available!
