Lift Literacy Programs

Lift Literacy Programs The Powell River Literacy Council promotes awareness of the importance of literacy for all citizens, regardless of age.

In particular we try to raise awareness about the fact that literacy touches everything we do in our every day lives. Literacy Outreach Powell River promotes and supports literacy initiatives in the Powell River region including Powell River: Living Together campaign called Hive Powell River, community book boxes, Family Literacy Programs and PR Walks Active Fiction.

This week is Family Literacy Week, and while we have scheduled activities Wednesday and Thursday (Toast Painting and Story Time!), we also have an activity for you to take home and do together on your own time. There are two types of bags: Candy and mini marshmallows, or dried fruits with mini marshmallows.

Drop by Family Place or the CRC any day this week for a pattern building bag. This is a great activity for families to do together and helps children build core pattern recognition skills used for basic literacy and numeracy. Each bag comes with instructions, sweets, and skewers.

Come grab a bag and have fun building patterns together!
