It's been a minute (ok more like several minutes) since we did one of our famous shout-outs on one of our amazing people...
Meet April!
This special lady has quite the interesting story of how she became one of our instructors for our community Stay On Your Feet classes. What started out as a very fulfilling career as a community registered practical nurse throughout the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts sadly took a catastrophic turn when she was involved in a lifechanging car accident.
April's journey to learn how to walk and talk again led her to multiple therapy appointments. Then one day a chiropractor suggested that she try yoga.
Well she did, and the rest is history! What started out as as a few private lessons and group chair classes to help aid in her own recovery, morphed into completing her 200 yoga teacher training, continued education teachings in chair, yin, nidra, and yoga for brain injury, and now she is sharing all of her very valuable knowledge in many different classes including in our falls prevention classes throughout the district.
When April isn't busy teaching, she and her husband and dog enjoy a peaceful off-grid life in a log cabin in the Almaguin Highlands.
She says the best part about her job as an instructor is working with seniors - a love she has had since she started as a young candy striper many years ago, and continues to this day.
Check out our schedule of Stay On Your Feet Classes on our website at epscss.ca - if you're lucky you might catch April teaching one of them!
