Ticks can remain active whenever temperatures are above freezing, so if you're heading into the woods, fields or tall grasses this fall, don't forget your tick check:
Wear light-coloured clothing, long pants, and closed footwear
Check your clothing and body after being outdoors
Check your pets and outdoor gear, too
Shower after outdoor activities
Found a tick? Remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers
Blacklegged (deer) ticks can transmit Lyme disease, while American dog ticks can carry other infections, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Upcoming Volunteer Event - Seed Collection - Sat. October 17, 1pm-3pm.

Help collect seeds from native plants at Alton Family Nature Reserve and contribute to habitat restoration efforts across the Long Point Basin. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, learn about native plants, and support local conservation.

🌲This , we’re launching a campaign to help Save the Eastern Hemlocks, raising funds for treatments that can protect these trees and the habitats they create for many species.

Eastern Hemlocks in the Long Point Basin are under threat from Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA), an invasive insect spreading across Southwestern Ontario that can rapidly kill mature Hemlocks.

Some of the trees we’re working to protect are hundreds of years old and among the largest recorded Eastern Hemlocks in Canada.

🍄 The Fungus Among Us hike… is coming to Trout Creek. Join local mushroom enthusiast Leanne Lemaich for a guided hike through Trout Creek Nature Reserve and discover the fascinating world of fungi - from their incredible shapes and colours to the important roles they play in the forest.

New signs and new ways to explore Trout Creek Nature Reserve!🌿

With more than 3 km of trails, there’s plenty to discover at Trout Creek Nature Reserve... from oak savanna and sandy soils to the steep-sided valley carved by Trout Creek.

Our new welcome sign, trail map and trail markers make it easier to find your way and connect with this special landscape. Thank you to the Ontario Community Environment Fund (OCEF) for supporting this project.
