Join us on Sunday, June 7 from 10am to 12pm at South Coast Gardens in St. Williams — for Native Plant Gardening for Lower Light Areas. Discover how to create a vibrant, low-maintenance garden in shady areas using native plants.

This workshop will explore native plant species well-suited to low-light conditions, along with practical tips for creating organic rich soils, adding logs and other features that enhance the woodland character of a garden, and using textural differences in leaf shape to design a welcoming and calming space. Learn how to support local biodiversity while enhancing the natural beauty of your landscape.

Join us this Saturday from 10am to 12pm for Sights and Sounds of Ontario Frogs.

Nature exploration leader, educator and photographer .gauthierhelmer will share knowledge about the 11 different species of frogs found in Ontario, as well as our two species of toads. Topics to be included are lifestyle, habitats, calls, and key factors for identification.

The presentation will be concluded with a short walk around the wetlands and pond at Alton Family Nature Reserve in hopes of practicing our newly acquired identification skills.

Join us for an important stewardship event as we help plant the seeds of a future forest at Alton Family Nature Reserve.

📅 Sat. May 9th, 1–3 PM at Alton Family Nature Reserve

This is a unique opportunity to support long-term habitat restoration by planting nuts that will one day become part of a thriving native forest.

The day won't be very physically demanding, and volunteers are welcome to drop in for whatever amount of time works best for their schedule, whether that’s the full two hours or just part of the afternoon.

🌿2026 Great Garlic Mustard Pull

Help us protect our forests from invasive garlic mustard! This European and Asian plant spreads rapidly, forming dense monocultures that crowd out native species.

📅 Tues. April 21st, 1–3 PM at Alton Family Nature Reserve

Invasive species like garlic mustard threaten Ontario's biodiversity by outcompeting native plants. Controlling them is a priority in the Long Point Basin, and your participation will make a big difference.

The physical effort required is low to medium--perfect for most volunteers. We'll be pulling garlic mustard by hand or using small garden tools.
