πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ What a great group of individuals at the Outdoor Caucus in Ottawa.

It was encouraging to see so many passionate people coming together to discuss the future of Canada’s fisheries, wildlife, conservation, outdoor recreation, and resource-based communities.

Working together and building relationships is an important part of ensuring our voices continue to be heard.

🎣 A Few Letters, One Goal 🎣

Before BCRFA’s trip to Ottawa, several letters were sent to Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson requesting a meeting to discuss the concerns of BC fishing communities.

Special thanks to MP Tamara Kronis, MP Jeff Kibble, and MP Blaine Calkins for their support and efforts to help make that meeting happen.

While a meeting was not possible during this visit, we appreciate everyone who took the time to advocate on behalf of recreational anglers, coastal businesses, and fishing families.

Every conversation, letter, and effort helps ensure the voices of BC fishing communities continue to be heard. 🌊🐟🎣

Dear Minister Thompson,

I have been working with the BC Recreational Fishing Association for the past few years. They are sincere in their concerns about our public fishery, and I have personally been to several town halls organized by the organization where hundreds of people have expressed concerns about the proposed changes to the salmon allocation policy.

In my riding of Nanaimo-Ladysmith, we don't just live near the water, we live on the water and I respectfully add my voice to those who have asked you to meet with them. We are a community that is looking for certainty and predictably so that we can run our businesses, enjoy time on the water and feed our families.

The public fishery makes a significant contribution to our local, provincial, and national economy and organizations like the BCRFA have valid concerns that ought to be heard at the highest levels.

I would also be grateful for a reply to my letter to you dated March 27, 2026. I recognize that you are a busy Minister, but it has been almost two months.

With apologies if I have received a reply from you that I missed, and my best wishes,

Tamara
