“A Good Day” by Michelle Larocque was awarded Second Place in the Prose category of our 2025 Ekphrastic Writing Contest.

Inspired by Been a Good Day by Delvea Tuff, the story follows a farmer reflecting on a lifetime of memories while carrying out the simple routines of a day on the farm. Through recollections of family, friendship, loss, and the changing seasons of life, the story celebrates the people and moments that stay with us.

“The beauty of the natural world inspires my imagination and guides my creative process. I create paintings and jewelry to fill hearts and homes with joy, warmth and love.” — Carlannah Chester

Creativity has been a lifelong passion for Carlannah Chester. Inspired by her grandmother and a childhood spent surrounded by forests, fields, and flowers, her work is deeply rooted in an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world.

Carlannah has spent many years creating and selling her handcrafted jewelry at craft shows and exhibitions, developing a style that reflects both artistry and a love of nature. Now based in Uxbridge, she continues to create from her home studio while staying connected to the vibrant local arts community.

Carlannah is one of our newest Resident Artists. Stop by the gallery this weekend to see her beautiful jewelry collection in person.

“Hello from the Other Side” by Kathryn MacDonald was awarded First Place in the Poetry category of our 2025 Ekphrastic Writing Contest.

Inspired by Hello from the Other Side by Jennifer Burrows, the poem imagines a crossing into another realm—where memory, thought, and myth blur together in a quiet, suspended moment.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing this year’s winning entries alongside the artwork that inspired them.

We say this a lot, but this is work you really have to see in person.

James McKeag’s mixed media pieces play with colour, texture, and composition in a way that feels both playful and precise.

These food-inspired works bring a different side of his practice forward—layered, detailed, and full of character.

James is one of our Resident Artists. Stop by the Scugog Arts Space to see his work up close.

Take a closer look at the hooked wool landscapes of Jennifer Taylor, currently on display at the Scugog Arts. Rich in texture and detail, her work transforms fibre into layered scenes that feel both familiar and deeply rooted in the natural world.

These pieces are best experienced in person, where the craftsmanship and tactile quality of the work can really be appreciated.

Jennifer Taylor is one of our Resident Artists, and her work is regularly featured in the space alongside a rotating collection of local and regional artists.

Drop by next time you’re in Scugog and spend some time with the work.
