Ever wonder what’s happening on and beneath the surface of your local lakes? Every sample, reading, and observation helps tell the story of lake health.

With support from our partner municipalities, SSEA uses a range of monitoring tools to better understand local lake conditions, including:
✅ Aqua TROLL sondes that measure multiple water quality parameters
✅ Specialized probes that help us monitor algae levels
✅ Secchi discs that measure water clarity
✅ Water level gauges that track changes in water levels on select lakes

Together, these tools help us monitor and better understand lake health across the Severn Sound watershed.

Today, we take time to honour Residential School Survivors, their families and communities, and to remember the children who never returned home. 🧡
At SSEA, we acknowledge that we work on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples who have cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial. We recognize the deep connections between Indigenous communities and the natural environment, and the invaluable knowledge, stewardship, and leadership they continue to share.
By listening to and learning from Indigenous voices, we deepen our understanding of the land, strengthen our stewardship efforts, and contribute to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.
May we all take time today to listen, reflect, learn, and carry the spirit of reconciliation forward in our communities and in our daily actions.

Our amazing seasonal staff met with Adam Chambers this summer to share their experiences working with SSEA through the program 🌱

They spoke about youth employment, environmental stewardship, skill development, and the value of programs that help young people gain meaningful work experience while making a positive impact in their communities.

As we reflect on another successful summer season, we're proud of everything these students accomplished & grateful for the support that helped make these opportunities possible.
