This is just a handful of the incredible volunteers who make this group successful!

We couldn't do it without the support of the community and everyone who helps report, capture, rescue, house and transport the injured wildlife of the North Island and surrounding areas!

Give a big thank you to VOLUNTEERS! 💛

This group does not fundraise or collect funds in any way, every rescue and transport is completely self funded by the volunteer handling the situation.

Keep reporting your injured wildlife and for those who remain available for transport, keep it up!

Hey Port Hardy!

We currently have an injured Canadian Goose seen here hanging out with a flock of White chested Geese.

This fella (or lady!) has an injured foot (flipper?)! Which is so incredibly hard for anyone to see, especially us as wildlife rescuers and transporters.

Sadly, and unfortunately, there is very little that we can do until this beautiful goose is unable to fly - or their condition deteriorates to the point of us being able to capture. Geese DO NOT like to be captured, their flock will run at you, they will fly from you, they stress out, etc. Making a bird that can still fly - extremely difficult to capture.

(If anyone CAN capture this guy (or gal) - that would be wonderful - but please be extremely careful! Wear gloves, bring a sheet to throw over him, watch for his face and sharp teeth. I have an assortment of kennels and can help arrange transport to MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre.)

As long as a goose or other feathered friend can fly away from us - they will! Making capture, next to impossible!

We will continue to monitor the situation, and this birds condition. Please know that we are trying to do everything we can to help. But, this is a next to impossible situation as birds do not want to be caught even when they are near death - let alone when they have a foot basically falling off. Silly goose!

Conservation Officers are investigating a Chilliwack resident for feeding bears.

COs were provided information from the public about an individual found hand-feeding a sow and two cubs in a residential neighbourhood. The investigation is ongoing.

Feeding dangerous wildlife, such as bears, creates a serious public safety risk. Wildlife fed by humans lose their sense of fear and associate people as a source to get food, as opposed to foraging for their natural nutrients.

As a direct result from this individual feeding the family unit of bears, the sow had to be destroyed, and the two cubs were taken to a rehabilitation center so they can be relocated next spring.

WildSafeBC plays an important role in our communities by educating the public on best practices for attractant management and living with wildlife in urban areas. Their team has worked diligently in Chilliwack.

Conservation Officers are appreciative of the community members who continue to prioritize the safe co-existence of humans and wildlife.
