Re: Submission to the Community Housing Fund… North Island Seniors Housing Foundation
As we await the outcome of our 2025 funding application from BC Housing and the Community Housing Fund (CHF), I would like to highlight the significant opportunity for success presented by our initiative. It is essential not to overlook the collective strength and collaboration in our community, which have been instrumental in developing a housing proposal to the benefit of Elder and Senior residents in Port Hardy; and across all Mount Waddington Communities. I encourage continued lobbying of decision makers to support the housing well-being of our aging populations.
Our funding request represents more than a response to an administrative process; it is a call to action that leverages the diverse expertise, perspectives, and commitment within our group to address a critical need for senior housing. Each member has contributed specialized knowledge—whether in social services, healthcare, accounting, design, general contracting, planning, architecture, or problem-solving, expertise that has informed our approach and strengthened our proposal. These efforts focus on established culturally safe and affordable living environments as a critical senior and elder need.
The North Island Seniors Housing Foundation’s submission to BC Housing is rooted in practical analysis based on proven need and cost effective preliminary apartment-style design concepts, as an integral step toward improved aged housing security in the District of Mount Waddington. The proposal details essential factors such as unit sizes, occupancy configurations, amenities, cluster health care. It incorporates anticipated construction costs and draft operational budgets reflective of similar remote developments. By aligning these considerations with the vision for a culturally safe and affordable housing project, our team’s expertise has concluded a responsible assessment of feasibility, financial forecasting, and other key criteria. Your collective contributions will assist decision makers in their recognition of Mount Waddington Region as deserving of their investment in senior housing.
Our consultants, overseen by the K’awat’si Economic Development Commission, have submitted a proposal integrating innovative and practical strategies developed in partnership with various housing experts. Through mutual respect, open communication, and consistent dedication, we have addressed priorities set forth by the Community Housing Fund: community desire, fairness, hope, equity, and positive impact. The purpose of our submission extends far beyond administrative compliance; it aims to create a housing solution that with growth potential enhancing lifetime holistic security for seniors on the North Island, preserving family and health care connections within familiar community services.
Together we have developed a comprehensive proposal, and as we await decisions from BC Housing, I urge everyone to remain encouraged by the positive changes we seek to bring about, regardless of receiving approval. Thank you for your dedication, passion, and commitment to enhancing community wellness.
Let us move forward with determination and confidence, assured that we have acted with integrity and professionalism.
Please continue to vigorously advocate Seniors and Elders housing wellness to all stakeholders.
With appreciation,
Gordon Patterson,
