Dignitaries and Park Staff gathered at the Friends Circle in MacGregor Point Park for an announcement this morning. MECP Minister Todd McCarthy, Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, and Saugeen Shores Mayor Luke Charbonneau were on hand to announce the creation of 17 new interior camp sites at the park. The opening date for these sites will be announced shortly. The FOMPP is pleased to see new investment in the park.

Celebrate the last day in May with a morning hike at MacGregor Point Park and then stay for a delicious barbecue lunch. These two can serve up a mean burger, hot dog, sausage dog or infamous MacGr-egg-or Sandwich! This is our last day of eight days of fundraising lunches so we are serving from 11 am to 1 pm while supplies last. We hope to see you there.

🐢 WE BRAKE FOR TURTLES

Turtles are an important part of our watershed and supporting their habitat by protecting wetlands and swamps is key. And although we strive to protect all wildlife, SVCA simply doesn’t have the resources to handle injured turtles.

Here’s what you should know this turtle season:
✅ Ontario turtles are active from April to October, especially in May and June when females search for nesting sites.
✅ Eggs develop naturally, and sadly, less than 1% of hatchlings survive to adulthood.
✅ You can legally build nest protectors on private property—just follow OTCC’s instructions for safe, effective protection.
✅ NEVER dig up or disturb a turtle nest. It’s illegal and can harm hatchlings, some of whom may hatch the following spring.

Found an injured turtle? For all turtle-related questions or concerns, please contact the experts at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC): www.ontarioturtle.ca

Let’s protect our turtles and their habitats! 🐢💙

Are the trails calling you?
It's a great time for a bike or hike in MacGregor Point Park!
🚴🏻There are no mosquitoes!
🥾The shoulder seasons are quiet in the park.
🦅It's easier to spot birds before the leaves have opened up on the trees.
🐢Wildlife is more active after the long winter months.
🌱The flowers, ferns, and other plants are making an appearance.
Lots of reasons to make a date with nature.
What's your favourite trail for a bike or hike in MacGregor Point Park?

The spring ephemerals have bloomed in Ontario forests. Here are some fun facts about these fleeting spring flowers.
🌿Spring emphemerals are among the first flowers to bloom and are important as an early food source for pollinators.
🌿They have adapted for absorb water and nutrients quickly to support their short growing season of 40-60 days.
🌿Invasive plants such as garlic mustard are threatening spring ephemerals as they out-compete them for water and nutrients.
Share a suggestion for what we can do to protect our spring forest flowers.
