Guiding Principles The cornerstones of Relationship-Based Recreation are respect, trust, belonging and ownership. Respect: We believe that positive role modeling promotes mutual respect and understanding. Mutual respect enables us to celebrate diversity, treat all youth with dignity, and to support development of all youth to meet their potential. Trust: We believe in leadership that is based in trust. We believe in upholding trust in the interest of the “greater good”. We hold true to all commitments we make and we respect individual confidentiality. Belonging: We believe in encouraging the community to recognize and celebrate the richness that every youth brings to the community. We believe that nurturing the development of “sense of belonging” in a youth is key to individual health and wellness and we believe in designing a program that focuses on providing community connections that enhance sense of belonging. Ownership: We believe in creating opportunities for meaningful youth engagement. We believe that supporting and nurturing youth to create youth-initiated opportunities will result in the empowerment of youth and the encouragement to take responsibility for the success of the community.
