🐷 Pool Fundraiser Update! 🐷

We’re making progress!

We’ve raised $803 of our $1,921 goal!

That’s 42% of the way to a stock tank that can (hopefully) withstand the pig crew’s enthusiasm for destruction. 🙃

We still have $1,118 to go, but we’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has donated, shared, and cheered us on so far. Every donation brings us one step closer to giving the pigs a durable place to cool off during the summer heat.

As a reminder, for every $10 donated, you’ll receive one entry into our fundraiser draw!

🎁 $100 Amazon gift card

Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing a 10-foot stock tank for our pig crew!

Thank you for helping us get these wonderfully destructive pigs a pool that can actually survive them! 💚

Good morning from Phoebe! ☀️

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how adorable those little feathered feet are?

If you recall, last summer we worked hard to create a cool place for the pigs to beat the heat. We hauled water, set up pools, and did our best to give them a comfortable place to wallow. Unfortunately, their talent for destruction proved to be every bit as impressive as our efforts. 🙃 No matter what we came up with, the pigs always seemed to find a way to dismantle it, flatten it, chew it, and turn it into something completely different than intended.

That’s why this year we came up with a new plan. We had hoped to purchase a 10-foot stock tank. A much more durable option that could withstand enthusiastic pigs while giving them a place to cool off all summer long. We planned to use some of the funds from our Spring Celebration to help make that happen, but with the event raising only $900, those funds had to go toward feed for the animals.

A 10-foot stock tank costs approximately $1,700 plus tax, which is currently beyond our budget. To put things in perspective, our monthly operating costs are roughly $3,000, while monthly donations currently sit at around $750. That means we’re constantly working to bridge the gap just to cover feed, hay, and the daily care of the animals, making larger purchases like this difficult without additional fundraising support.

So, we’re launching a fundraiser to help us get there.

To make things a little more exciting, a generous supporter has donated a $100 Amazon gift card as a prize. We’ll also include a private, 1-hour "behind-the-scenes" tour of the sanctuary for the donor and up to three friends, including a meet-and-greet with the residents.

🎟️ For every $10 donated, you’ll receive one entry into the draw.

Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing a stock tank to help keep the pig crew cool, comfortable, and happy throughout the summer. 💚🐷💦

Thank you for supporting Grey’s Haven and for helping us provide the best possible care for these wonderfully destructive pigs. 🐷

I’m sharing a video of the pig crew enjoying a refreshing dip before their inner engineers took over.

Yesterday was a big day for us.

As you may remember, Fig was castrated last year. Unfortunately, we recently discovered that the procedure had failed, so our vet was back yesterday to perform a surgical castration to ensure that this time it would be successful.

Even though sedation and anesthesia are relatively safe, it's never easy watching one of the animals you love go through a procedure and then waiting for them to fully recover. Fig certainly stayed true to himself and fought the sedation every step of the way - just like last time. He refused to relax until I sat with him, and only then did he finally settle enough for the sedation to work and for the procedure to begin.

Thankfully, everything went well. We kept a close eye on him throughout the day, and by around 11 p.m. he was acting much more like himself, which finally allowed me to head to bed. Fern and Fig spent the night in the garage again so I could keep a close on them with the camera rather than disturbing them every time I checked on Fig.

Jacob and Jasper, our oldest goats, also had their teeth examined and treated yesterday. Jacob recently turned 11, and Jasper will be 11 in August. Generally goats teeth naturally wear down over time but as they age, teeth can change, break, or even fall out, making it difficult for them to eat enough and maintain a healthy weight.

Both boys have struggled with their weight for quite some time. Despite extensive testing, we've never found another underlying cause. While she was here, our vet checked their teeth and agreed that both needed some dental work. Using special files, she carefully rasped down the sharp points on their molars.

Both boys were absolute stars during the procedure, and I'm hopeful that this will help them eat more comfortably and finally start putting some weight back on before winter.

Days like yesterday are never easy, but I'm incredibly grateful for a wonderful veterinary team and for three very good boys who handled everything so well. 💚

While we don't have the final bill yet, there will likely be very little additional cost associated with Fig's procedure beyond the difference between the two castration methods. However, Jacob and Jasper's dental work was an unexpected expense.
