Our garden at Hanna Park has been planted today by Lions Leslie and Mary Beth for your enjoyment. And the bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds are going to love it! The deer, hopefully, will find the chosen plants to be distasteful as lantana, dahlias, masa, silver falls, ageratum, and salvia are all listed as deer resistant.

It may not quite feel like summer yet, but extended summer hours have returned to the transfer stations. Through your continued support with your donations of returnable beverage containers at our return depot at the Eveleigh Transfer Station in Port Carling, we are able to continue to support the community in many ways. We help feed the community through the West Muskoka Foodbank, and provide funds for meals at Andy's House Muskoka Hospice. We have given emergency funding to individuals and families in immediate need. We support specialised camps for kids and adults. We support South Muskoka Hospital. Our local youth benefit from our support through the school, sports organisations, funding for post secondary education. And of course, we serve the community by providing fun events like Winterfest, the Easter Egg hunt, and the golf tournament. All this, and more, is accomplished with funds garnered through donations from you, whether it be by supporting our fundraising efforts, or outright dollar donations. An easy and ongoing way to donate is to bring your 'empties' to the return depot at the Eveleigh Transfer Station, affectionately know as 'Byron's Bottleworks'. Keep them coming!
(P.S. ... we get a better dollar return rate if the cans are not crushed/flattened! Thank you!)

What can 16 people, aged 11 to 90, accomplish for our community in two hours? Amazing things as it turns out! Two full pickup truck loads of garbage and recycling was picked up along the side of Highway 118 from Omenica Road to Brackenrig on one side of Port Carling and from the Shell gas station to Port Carling Garden Centre on the other side of town. Take notice as you travel those stretches of the highway and see the positive change these Port Carling Lions members, friends and family have made! (Unfortunately we didn’t get photos of all 16 helpers but know that you are equally thanked and appreciated)

Every spring, as the snow melts and the need is exposed, the members of the Port Carling Lions Club and supporters join together to help to make our community litter-free by picking up trash along sections of highway 118W on the outskirts of Port Carling.
This year’s annual roadside cleanup day is Saturday May 2nd. Please join us! We meet at Foodland at 9am on Saturday May 2nd, and work together as a group. The district supplies us with bags and gloves (or bring your own) and we do the rest. Come and help out your community with us. Please RSVP at [email protected]‍ ‍so that we can plan for supplies and pickup areas.

We wish you a happy day of family, friends, and community! Through your generous support of our fundraising efforts (alcohol bottle and tin returns to Eveleigh transfer station, Winterfest, September golf tournament), we are able to proudly support our community. Today 80 families will enjoy a special dinner supplied to West Muskoka Foodbank by the Port Carling Lions. We thank Stephen’s Butcher Shop, and Port Carling Foodland for their ongoing support to Port Carling Lions and the community.
