Today, September 30th, is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It’s a time to remember the children who never returned home and to honour Survivors and their families. Reconciliation is rooted in the courage to listen, the humility to acknowledge past and ongoing harms, and an unwavering commitment to upholding the truth while confronting denialism in all forms. The Port Burwell Historical Society stands in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples today and every day, committing ourselves to the essential, ongoing work of truth-telling and meaningful reconciliation.

The Port Burwell Historical Society is pleased to announce the launch of our Beacon Newsletter to let you know what is happening with the PBHS.

We are going to try to do this monthly if there is information to share. Most of it will, of course, be about the lighthouse.

The Newsletters will also be archived and available on our website, https://pbhistoricalsociety.ca/ , under "The Beacon Newsletter" drop down menu.

The Port Burwell Historical Society has begun building our World War II remembrances. These will be posted prior to November 11th. 2026.

If you would like to review our previous Remembrance Day postings for WWI, please visit our website at https://pbhistoricalsociety.ca/ and open the drop down menu labelled "The Fallen"

We are looking for photographs of the following individuals from the Port Burwell area who perished in service with the Canadian Merchant Marine:
