Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue -Station 39, Port Alberni

Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue -Station 39, Port Alberni We are Unit 39 of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue - Pacific Region.

Our motto is Volunteers Savings Lives on the Water and that describes the function of our group fairly well. To do so effectively, we have our own Fast Response Craft, a 34' Falkins Class II cabin vessel, which we received on April 1, 2011. Our missions are anything the Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre in Victoria tasks us with, and we operate primarily in Alberni Inlet and less frequently in Bar

kley Sound. We respond to all types of marine distress calls: Vessels broken down and requiring a tow, man overboard, vessels adrift, onboard fires, overdue boaters, etc. We do so in any kind of weather and at any time of day or night, every day of the year. With the new vessel we are also able to assist in Medivacs, and have been tasked a number of times to meet the Bamfield Lifeboat and transfer a patient for transport to hospital in Port Alberni.
