From the Migrant Rights Network:

"Bill C-12 has passed Senate and will become law soon.

Are you a migrant worried about how Bill C-12 might affect you?

Do you support migrants and want to understand what comes next?

Join our emergency town hall on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at 5pm PST on Zoom to get updates, learn how to get ready, understand possible impacts, and discuss how we can respond together.

Migrant Rights Network is a migrant-led coalition fighting for justice, dignity, and permanent resident status for all."

❤📚 Tomorrow is Valentines Day AND International Book Giving Day!
It’s not a coincidence that International Book Giving Day falls on the same day as Valentine’s Day. International Book Giving Day is about two things: a love of books and a love for fellow human beings.

😃 It is a day to share your love of books with someone — especially children — who might not have access to as many books as you do.

💡 Ideas to celebrate

🎁 1. Leave a book somewhere

Next time you’re at the doctor’s, you can “accidentally” leave your favorite book for someone else to find and pick up. You can leave a nice note on the first page saying whoever picks the book up is free to read and pass it on to the next person. That way, you start a book-gifting culture and make a difference in the lives of many people.

📚 2. Organize a book exchange program

It’s not just about giving books out — you can also exchange them. You can start a book exchange program in your local community so everyone gets to benefit from each other’s library. You can have one program for kids and another for adults. It’s a great way to share love within the community and strengthen everybody’s love of reading.

✅ 3. Donate to a local library or literacy organization.

Our libraries are underfunded. You can help out by donating some gently-used or new books to your local library or any non-profit that focuses on sharing books with those who cannot access them.

Community literacy organizations across BC need support too. They are the front line for distributing books in your community.

Just before Christmas, these helpful little elves filled up the Little Library at the Harbour Quay! A big thank you to them (and to their mom, Chloe Roberts!)

If you need to make room on your bookshelves after a good Christmas haul, consider donating your used books! Your donations can be dropped off at the Recycling Depot on 3rd Avenue. Just let them know you're dropping off books for Literacy Alberni and they'll point you in the right direction!

If you've been uptown lately, you've probably noticed the wonderful work that Sheri Reed has done on our holiday display on the Coulson building on the corner of 3rd and Mar.

If you haven't seen it yet, next time you're in the area, stop by to see all of the windows decorated by local organizations!

Thank you to Sheri and to all of our volunteers, and happy holidays!

This weekend, we refilled the Little Libraries at Save-On-Foods and Quality Foods! Check the photos for some of our favourites, including some great Christmas books for the kids.

If you have books to donate, you can drop them off at the Recycling Depot. Just let them know you have books for Literacy Alberni's Little Libraries.

(We're also doing our best to remove things that don't belong, including Druthers newspapers, when we see them. If you notice these at any of our libraries, please let us know so we can remove them: https://literacyalberni.ca/contact/ )

Happy Sunday! This weekend, we restocked the Little Libraries at the Harbour Quay, the ACRD office (rear entrance on 4th), and Buy Low. Lots of kids books and a good mix of others too!

The top shelf of the ACRD office library has a giant book of info on Canada with tons of gorgeous photos so check it out if that's something you're into!
