Swap-Meet Success! Maple Ridge ARC wants to thank all those that attended today's swap meet. Thanks also to all the vendors that came out to sell gear and our many club members and sponsors whose dedication made this possible. So much awesome stuff was available there and I saw some spectacular deals. A ton of great gear went to new homes. Many friends I talked to were super-happy at scoring some new-to-them toys at great prices. I have about 'three of everything' and I still spent way too much on things I couldn't pass-up. 😃 The pancake and sausage breakfast was far more popular than we expected and completely sold out. A special thank you to GPSCentral for the donation of an incredible Kenwood D75 handheld. If you attended, hopefully it was enjoyable for you! Thanks to everyone that helped make it great!

The club deeply regrets to inform the amateur radio community of the passing of club member Gerald Fix (VE7GJK). We learned yesterday (Feb 26) that Gerald passed away that morning. Being on the youthful side of our club membership, Gerald was still working fulltime for the Province of BC when he became ill in 2022. He continued working while battling cancer for many months, demonstrating his courage and resolve. His involvement in the hobby was more concentrated on the VHF side, and he was a regular on some of the local nets. Service arrangements will be listed on our website when they are announced.

The club deeply regrets to inform the amateur radio community of the sudden passing of a current and active club member. Mel Porritt (VE7AL) passed away at Ridge Meadows Hospital in the early hours of February 22nd after being admitted recently due to a fall. Mel was a long-standing member of the Maple Ridge club. He was also a long-time volunteer with the S.P.A.R.C. radio museum in Coquitlam, and did many hours of volunteering in the community, particularly with the RCMP Crime Watch/Citizens on Patrol. He was a regular on the BC Public Service Net for many years and also at the club's weekly gatherings and annual social events. He will be missed by many. Service arrangements will be listed on our website when they are announced.
