Common (a.k.a.) lesser burdock (Artium minus (Hill) Bernh. is designated as a Noxious W**d in Alberta under the Alberta W**d Control Regulations. Noxious W**ds are considered widespread and cannot be fully eradicated but landowners are required to control their spread according to the Alberta W**d Control Act.

Targeted Grazing is one method to reduce the spread of Common burdock. Learn more about targeted grazing practices: https://grasslandrestorationforum.ca/targeted-grazing-monitoring-protocols/

The Alberta Invasive Species Fact Sheets provide more information on ID, toxicity, prevention and control of common burdock https://abinvasives.ca/invasive-species/

Join us at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump for this special milestone as we honour GRF’s work to promote the conservation and restoration of Alberta’s native grasslands, pay tribute to the Blackfoot Nation for the role they played in the early history of stewardship of these lands, and celebrate the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists with our greater community and colleagues. 🙂🌾

Agenda:
👉 A site tour of the facility led by Stan Knowlton, retired interpretive guide at Head Smashed In.
👉 A presentation of Stan’s current work with wild harvesting native hay and an opportunity to discuss current challenges in native seed supply. Stan is an active member of the Prairie Native Seed Collaborative.
👉 A guided hike to a vision quest site and the drive lanes with Stan to learn how the buffalo were managed in this landscape.
👉A chance to engage with past and current members of the GRF.
