Happy Indigenous Peoples Day to everyone celebrating this weekend. Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre is honoured to work on the unceded land of Treaty 1, 2, 3 and 5 Territory and the homeland of the MĂ©tis.
Survivor’s Hope Crisis Centre acknowledges, respects and is dedicated to continuing our journey of learning from the Anishinaabe, Cree, Dakota, Dene and MĂ©tis nations who are the original stewards of the lands we have the honour of working on.
In our work, SHCC centers the historical and contemporary harms experienced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people of Canada. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, and we dedicate ourselves to moving forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in a spirit of reconciliation, collaboration and celebration.

Hi there! My name is Alma (she/her). I am a Clinical Service Coordinator here at Survivor's Hope. Born and raised in Russia, I moved to Canada 5 years ago and now I'm extremely privileged to call it home. My experience adapting to a new country has really strengthened my appreciation for community, belonging, and culturally responsive support.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Social Work. While my education provided a strong foundation, some of my most meaningful learning has come from the people I have had the privilege of working alongside and supporting; whose resilience, resourcefulness, and wisdom continue to shape my practice.

My journey in the helping profession began as a crisis responder volunteer and has since included experience providing long-term therapy and community support work. My approach is person-centered, trauma-informed, and grounded in feminist principles; and I strive to create a safe and compassionate space where I can walk alongside survivors towards healing and growth.

Outside of work, I enjoy true crime podcasts, board games, and hot yoga. I enjoy staying creative and am always looking for a new arts and crafts ideas and recommendations!

When I was invited to moderate a panel on the care economy at the Canadian Labour Congress - Congrùs du travail du Canada 31st Constitutional Convention in Winnipeg, Manitoba, I did not expect that the overarching theme of my visit would also be “care” in every sense. At the Canadian Women’s ...

June is PTSD Awareness Month, June 27th is PTSD Awareness Day.

What is PTSD ?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. It’s more than just a "bad memory"; it’s the brain’s survival mechanism getting stuck in "high alert," even when the danger has passed.

In a person with PTSD, the brain's "alarm system" functions differently. The amygdala (responsible for fear) becomes hyper-reactive, while the prefrontal cortex (the rational part of the brain) has a harder time calming those fears down.

While the day itself is the "anchor," the entire month of June is designated as PTSD Awareness Month. The goal is to raise public awareness about the disorder, reduce the stigma surrounding it, and ensure that those experiencing PTSD know there are effective resources and supports available
