We were invited to come to St. Gregory's Catholic Church here in Pilot Mound this week. The church has been deconsecrated and is slated for demolition soon.
The building began as the Methodist Church and was built in 1886. With the amalgamation of the Methodist, Congregational, and Presbyterian churches in Canada in 1925, the building was sold to the Pilot Mound School Board, and was used as a classroom until 1959. It was then purchased by the local Catholic community, repaired and repainted and became part of the larger Swan Lake Catholic centre.

We have taken several of the original and beautiful Gothic style windows, small pieces of the classroom chalkboard and the large Gothic styled arch that was over the front door. Josef Sanders spotted an interesting find. In a small area of broken glass, W. J. Collins had signed his name into the glass etching. W. J. and his father were painters and decorators when they first came to the area. We're unsure what year he would have worked on the window etching.

We look forward to placing these in the museum in time. Thank you to the parishioners that invited us to preserve more of our history.
